About me

What is it? What is your struggle? The quality of your life is related to the quality of your relationships with those you love. My sole purpose is to support you in understanding why those relationships are in difficulty. I have specialised in Relationship Therapy for 18 years and offer a full online service for you and your partner. You can still work with me if they are not ready for counselling

You may be questioning whether to end your relationship? You may have already separated? Often in couples, there is a “split agenda” where you both feel the relationship should go in different directions.

We maintain our cars, homes, hair, even our gutters better than we ensure the health of our important relationships. It could be that you are about to embark on a massive change or transition and want support to navigate that. Even positive change can be stressful and this is often a part of the work I do.

Sadly loss is inevitable for all of us. You may have experienced the loss of a job, a home, or the grief of a lost loved one. For others, loss can represent a drop in trust, safety, or confidence. Again, these are all things that can be navigated.

Finding the right counsellor is an important step. You should feel a connection and comfortable enough to talk about the therapy itself and what you want and need. Counsellors are like tea- you may not like Earl Grey! Take the time to ask all your questions, especially about both qualifications, experience and areas of specialism. Sadly our industry remains unregulated, so feel confident in your counsellors professional background. All counsellors should have completed a two year Diploma in Counselling and have a supervised clinical placement as a bare minimum before qualifying. Do not be afraid to ask about this.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been a qualified counsellor for 18 years and been lucky enough to work in the statutory services (namely the NHS and Social work) and third sectors (charities such as Relate, and several other non profit organisations). I have been in private practice since 2011 and been lucky enough to work with over 3000 couples and individuals in my working life to date.

I qualified with Relationships Scotland (the sister organisation of Relate) and the Diploma in Couples Counselling was accredited by Napier University. I was required to complete over 1000 hours in clinical placement (largely with couples in crisis) to fully qualify, after which time, I was then employed as a counsellor by Relate

Since then, I have qualified as a teacher and taught Counselling from an introductory level, up to and including the Diploma in Counselling with CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre Awarding Body) and have helped to shape over 100 qualified counsellors.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
