CBT Therapist

About me

I am a qualified cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT) offering a calm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard and explore your difficulties at your own pace. I take a collaborative and individualised approach to therapy, recognising that everyone's experiences and needs are different. I aim to understand and work with you, not only on the difficulties you are facing, but also the wider circumstances that may be affecting your wellbeing, including work, relationships, financial pressures and physical health.

I support clients experiencing anxiety and depression, including low self-esteem, stress, work-related issues and grief. Together we can explore the challenges you are facing, develop a better understanding of your thoughts and feelings, and identify practical strategies to help you cope and move forwrd.

I believe therapy should be tailored towards you, taking account of your personal circumstances, strengths and goals. My aim is to help you build resilience and work towards meaningful change in ways that feel right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT and Groupwork (SCQF Level 11) from ACT Counselling Services and Training  and a COSCA Counselling Skills Certificate, and an honours music degree, GMus (hons.) RNCM.

As a therapist I have worked with a wide range of clients through Crisis Counselling, working with clients from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, PTSD and grief.

Alongside my counselling work, I bring over 25 years of experience teaching one-to-one at conservatoire level, as well as a background as a professional orchestral musician.

These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the pressures people can experience when striving to do well, meeting high expectations and trying to manage the demands placed upon them. I understand how the desire to achieve, combined with perfectionism, self-doubt or fear of getting things wrong, can affect our confidence, wellbeing, and sense of slef.

Working closely with people over many years has also shown me how differently we each respond to pressure, and how difficult it can sometimes be to acknowledge our own needs when we feel responsible for meeting the expectations of others.

This understanding informs my counselling practice and the way I work with clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
