About me
I'm a really approachable counsellor who can use coaching and mindfulness teaching in my work.
I welcome all clients
I have experience of helping clients from all walks of life and from a diverse range of backgrounds. My practice embraces people who bring a full range of emotional and psychological issues.
Coaching and mindfulness training when needed
I can flex the way I work to integrate therapeutic coaching or mindfulness training within my counselling approach. I find this can be particularly helpful for clients suffering from stress and burnout.
Face to face, Zoom or phone
I work with clients face-to-face, either from my therapy room at our farm near Mansfield or from Sage Therapy Centre in central Nottingham. I also work with clients on Zoom and by phone.
Intro call: getting a feel for me and checking our schedules work
I start client relationships with a 20 minute intro call. This helps you get a sense about me, and whether I'm a good fit for you and your needs. Before anything else, I'll check whether we can actually work together logistically - does my availability match yours? I don't think it's appropriate to ask you to share private and sensitive information with me until I know the practical arrangements will work.
What to expect in our first session
If our intro call feels right for you, the next step is for us to schedule our first session. This first session comprises a clinical assessment (where I try to understand what your needs are and check that I have the right skills and experience for you) and an initial assessment (where I try to understand your history and what you want out of therapy). It's possible that in our first session we might not actually 'get on with the work' just yet, but it's a really important session to lay the foundations for our work together.
No minimum commitment
Therapy tends to need space and time to work. It's not usually about quick fixes. But, it's really important that you don't feel you are committed to a 'course' of therapy, or long term therapy. It's really important that you feel in control of these decisions. At the end of each session, I'll check in with you about whether you want another one. I don't take this for granted. If you need to think about it, that's OK. Sometimes, clients need a break in therapy, and that's OK too.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm qualified as a counsellor and registered with the BACP. I have a mindfulness teaching qualification and I'm registered with the British Association (BAMBA) and, also, a member of Oxford Mindfulness. I have an Advanced Diploma in Coaching and have worked as a coach for personal and business clients for over 20 years.
I have wide-ranging experience of working with a full range of issues. I have worked extensively with clients who come with a significant history of trauma, including diagnosed or undiagnosed PTSD/CPTSD. I also have a specialism in helping clients with grief and bereavement.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My fee varies depending on location and the client. For example, I charge slightly more in Nottingham than from my farm near Mansfield and for certain wealthier clients I may negotiate to charge more to help fund my pro-bono work.
