I am a highly qualified counsellor with over ten years experience of working in the therapeutic field. At core I work Psychodynamically but it is the relationship between client and counsellor that I value most highly and, as research has shown, believe it is the relationship which proves the single most powerful factor in effective counselling. I therefore work with a warm, sensitive, empathetic style, finding that authenticity and sometimes even humour can be of great value in the building of trust and safety. With this in place I draw on a wide range of therapeutic approaches and interventions so that I can tailor the sessions for each individual client.
Some issues I have worked with include: depression, anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, trauma and PTSD, anger management, bereavement, relationship problems and addictions to name just a few. I have Post Graduate trainings in Couples Counselling, CBT, Solution-Focused brief therapy and Addiction Counselling. I have worked, and specialised within the field of addiction for the past five years, working with users at CRI - part of Sussex Healthcare in partnership with NHS - as well working with homeless adults and young people, and the elderly with mental health issues.
I have also worked extensively with children, adolescents and parents in the counselling service Families Plus, YMCA Dialogue and at The Rock Clinic providing counselling and clinical assessment.
I work from a comfortable therapy room in Brighton, with free parking or accessible on bus routes 1,7,12,14, 23. I offer short-term and open-ended therapy and currently work with children, adolescents, adults, elderly adults and couples.
I am motivated by a lifelong curiosity in people and their capacity to develop. I am committed to every patient in my practice, endeavouring to alleviate suffering, to facilitate positive change and encourage personal growth.
I am fully insured, have a clean DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) Enhanced Certificate and I am a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their Ethical Framework which contains the standards and principles for therapeutic practice.
