About me

What to expect from me:

As a fully trained, experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, I offer a safe space, online or in person to listen to you and to talk through all your concerns. First of all I will help you to cope, and then help you to heal.

I’ve trained in a number of evidence-based theories to help you overcome any negative thoughts and to cope better with difficult feelings. In time this will lead to lasting positive change in all areas of your life, your work and particularly in your relationships.

I freely share that my own therapy helped shift some truly difficult obstacles and abuse I suffered in my life, to bring healing and purpose to it today. Therapy enabled me to better understand myself, my relationships, my feelings, and confront my fears.

My methods of working:

As a psychodynamic practitioner, I maintain an interest in both your present and past where we are able to explore previous experiences and relationships to assist your therapy. I may advise short term work to help to focus on a particular concern in your ‘present’, or open-ended work to look more closely at your past experiences, to assist any other ongoing issues.

However you are feeling right now, I’ve found lasting change can come from seeking professional therapy. I work by building a trusting relationship together from the start. Whether using short, focused, or open-ended therapy, I bring a genuine optimism to help you reach your goals.

I feel change is a choice, that a lucky few of us seek out and embrace. I look forward to the opportunity of assisting you to 'embrace' positive change in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Training and CPD:

I am a fully qualified, and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor with a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (Distinction) MBACP from Highgate Counselling Centre, (HCC). I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have trained in couples work: Psychodynamic Couples Cert Course (based on Tavistock Couples Dip) – ECPS, and in addiction: Cert Course - Working with Addiction - Addict-ED. Facilitator: Former in-house addictions therapist at The Priory Group.

I possess a passion for learning different theories and methods alongside my psychodynamic core training, to consider and help my clients work through any issues they bring to therapy.

Your Safety and Confidentiality:

I stand beside and maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality, and the ethical guidelines and professional standards required by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) who am I registered with, No. 410076. Testimonials from clients:

“Working with Paul has literally been 'life changing'. I still struggle to recognise the person I was before I started the sessions. I'm much happier now and so much more assertive. Thanks so much for everything.”

"I just wish I'd started counselling years ago and had known the difference it would make to everything".

“I’ve finally got my anxious feelings under control. I’ve learned so much about myself over these past few months and that helps me every day now. It’s made so much sense doing this, seeing such a big improvement to my friendships and my work relationships too

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
