Counselling

Everyone has the capacity for growth and change. My aim is to collaborate in developing skills, resilience, and resources for clients to take into their everyday lives and continue to benefit from once therapy has ended.

I offer a professional, empathic, and non-judgemental environment for clients to explore issues which are currently troubling them in their personal or professional lives. The path to change will not always be smooth. However, an open and trusting relationship helps build the strength needed to get through the difficult parts of the process.

Recognising our work will be in partnership, I place significant value in informing and discussing with clients why interventions work, as part of my evidence-based practice. Knowing why something can effect change, rather than simply noting that it has, offers clients more durable resilience after therapy ends.

Therapy takes place in the here and now, but often presenting issues have their roots in the past. Active curiosity can uncover the causes of distress, including anxiety, depression or low self-esteem, and identify opportunities for change as clients exercise free will and take more control in their lives. Improving awareness of thoughts and feelings and associating these with behaviour towards yourself and others will be at the core of our work. I believe identifying, setting, and achieving goals allows you to take active responsibility for personal growth, resulting in meaningful, rewarding, and sustainable change.

Coaching

My previous career spanning 23 years in high-level finance roles in the City affords me a keen insight into the challenges and professional dynamics of demanding corporate cultures. This has proven invaluable in my therapeutic coaching approach with clients who require a level of understanding derived from shared experience.

In a therapeutic coaching context, I work with goal setting and achievement, uncovering blocks to progress, motivating factors, and improving professional relationships. I can also help with enhancing personal resilience and dealing with setbacks.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
