About me

Welcome to my profile,

I offer both, individual and couples counselling in person and online. Below you will find a section for each of the services. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch! I offer a free, 20 -minute phone consultation if you would like to have a chat prior to booking a session.

Individual counselling

In my individual work, I support people through a wide range of issues like low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship breakdown, family difficulties, work related issues, infertility and living with chronic illness, with my main speciality being anxiety and trauma. No issue is too small to bring, even if you think that others have it worse than you, you still deserve to be heard and be supported, and I am here for you. Whatever you bring, you will be met with compassion, empathy and a safe and confidential space to share how you really feel, without being judged for it.

Anxiety
If you are struggling with anxiety, you might feel embarrassed or even ashamed about the things you are anxious about, or the hold anxiety has over your life. Many clients say, they thought their feelings were irrational or even ridiculous, which made it harder for them to get help. In our sessions we will explore what makes you anxious and endeavour to find the root cause of it. I will help you better understand your thought processes and the way anxiety operates, and provide you with tools to help manage your overall anxiety as well as anxiety/panic attacks. We will also cover exercises to calm your nervous system. Throughout the counselling process clients report general improvement in their mental health, reduced overall anxiety and quicker recovery from anxiety /panic attacks.

Trauma
Whether you are struggling with the weight of a recent or a historic trauma, of any kind, I am here to support you through it. I work in a person-centred way, which means that you are in charge of your healing journey. You don’t have to disclose every detail or relive everything to process what happened, and I will not push for more than you are willing to disclose. I understand that trust takes time. As well as empathy and patience, I offer psychoeducation, which clients tend to find very helpful. This means that at relevant times, I will explain how the body and mind respond to and deal with trauma, how it tries to protect you from further harm by using an overactive alarm system. I will help you understand, process and heal from your trauma by providing a safe space, acceptance, education and tools to help you reset that alarm. I also offer exercises to help calm your nervous system and reduce flashbacks and nightmares.

Couples

I also offer couples counselling, providing a supportive, confidential and impartial space for couples to explore the challenges they may be facing within their relationship. Whether you are experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, trust issues, the impact of life changes, or simply feeling disconnected from one another, counselling can help create a deeper understanding of each other's thoughts, feelings and needs. Together, we can explore unhelpful patterns, strengthen communication, rebuild trust where needed, and develop healthier ways of relating to one another.  My aim is to support both partners in feeling heard, respected and understood, helping you work towards a stronger, more fulfilling relationship and a positive way forward together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a degree in Psychology and a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am a registered member of the BACP. In addition to my training, I have also completed sexual trauma training with New Pathways, where I did my placement and where I continue to volunteer.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
