About me
Things can look fine from the outside, but inside you're unravelling, shifting, or shedding old skin. That's where I come in.
I'm Nilima, a person-centred psychotherapist based in Clapham, South London, with roots in Birmingham and Bengali heritage.
I work with people trying to make sense of life's many wonky turns - questioning a faith, feeling stuck in relationships, juggling cultural expectations, or dealing with grief in all its messy, unpredictable forms. Many of my clients are deep thinkers and feelers who've always felt a bit "other." If that's you, you're not alone.
I have a particular interest in working with people who are childfree - whether by choice, circumstance, or still figuring that out. This is an area of life that's often misunderstood, minimised, or simply not talked about in therapy. I think it deserves proper space.
Before training as a therapist, I worked as a journalist and editor, and later in private equity - where I funded my therapy training while unpicking corporate nonsense with military precision. That path shaped how I listen, how I think about stories and power, and how comfortable I am with complexity and difference.
Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and gently challenging when it needs to be. I offer a space to bring your full self - the messy, unsure, glorious, stubborn, and tired parts. You don't need fixing. But you might need somewhere to figure things out.
I currently have space for in-person sessions on Tuesday daytimes and online sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm a qualified psychotherapist with an MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy from Metanoia Institute / Middlesex University and an Advanced Post Diploma Certificate in Person-Centred Couples Psychotherapy.
I've worked across NHS services, low-cost counselling centres, and now in private practice, supporting adults in their twenties to seventies through all sorts of life tangles - anxiety, low mood, grief, identity questions, family dynamics, and things that don't always fit a neat label.
I also have experience working with people living with psychiatric diagnoses, including schizophrenia and various personality disorders, in a residential setting, supporting those moving from hospital back into the community.
I welcome clients from all backgrounds - including LGBTQ+ folks, people from culturally diverse communities, and those exploring neurodivergence. I'm especially interested in working with people going through religious shifts or quietly questioning beliefs they were raised with.
I regularly take part in further training. Lately I've been exploring trauma, shame, and the beautiful, complicated mess of being human.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
My fee for individual therapy is £85 per 50-minute session, whether we work in person or online.
Single Session Therapy
Sometimes one conversation is enough to bring clarity, ease, or movement. Single Session Therapy is a focused, one-off session - useful for a specific issue, decision, or emotional block. You're also welcome to use it to explore whether ongoing therapy feels right for you.
You choose the space that feels right:
- 50 minutes - £90 A steady, focused space to bring whatever's most present.
- 90 minutes - £120 A spacious session for when there's more to hold or explore.
Relationship Psychotherapy
I use this term deliberately because I don't want to privilege one kind of bond over another. Romantic partnerships are often the focus of traditional "couples counselling," but life is richer than that. Siblings, adult parent–child relationships, friendships, co-parenting, blended families, chosen families - these all shape who we are.
- Relationship psychotherapy is currently offered in person and online at £110 per 60-minute session.
If a relationship is important to you, it deserves space, respect, and depth.
