About me
Hi, I’m Nilima, a person-centred therapist based in London, with roots in Birmingham and Bengali heritage - and the life skills that come from fielding curious questions from strangers about it.
I work with people who are trying to make sense of life’s many wonky turns: whether it’s questioning a faith, feeling stuck in relationships, juggling culture clashes, or navigating grief in all its forms. Many of my clients are deep thinkers and feelers who’ve always felt a bit “other.” If that’s you, you’re in good company.
Before therapy, I worked in national media and government - basically, I’ve been in rooms where everyone wore a lanyard and no one made eye contact. Becoming a therapist was less of a pivot and more of a homecoming.
Therapy with me is down-to-earth, collaborative, and gently challenging when needed. I offer space to bring your full self - the messy, unsure, glorious, stubborn, and tired parts. You don’t have to be “fixed”; you just have to be real.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a qualified psychotherapist with an MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Applications from the Metanoia Institute. My style is rooted in classic Rogerian values: a proper, no-nonsense relationship based on trust, honesty and empathy, so no jargon, no clipboards, no “and how does that make you feel?” (unless you want that, of course).
I’ve worked across NHS/IAPT services, low-cost counselling centres, and now private practice, supporting adults in their 20s to 50s with all sorts of life tangles, from low mood and anxiety to grief, identity, and things that don’t quite fit a neat label. I’ve also worked with clients living with psychiatric diagnoses (like schizophrenia and personality disorders), offering therapy in a halfway house setting for people leaving hospital and stepping into community life.
I welcome clients from all walks of life, including LGBTQ+ folk, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, and those exploring neurodivergence (including ADHD). I'm particularly interested in supporting people going through religious transitions or gently unpicking inherited beliefs.
Before this life, I worked in journalism and corporate admin: helpful training for asking curious questions and keeping a straight face in a crisis. I also do regular CPD, with recent focus on trauma, shame, and the beautiful messiness of being human.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Fees
£60.00 - £100.00
Additional information
To reflect different financial circumstances, my fees are:
£60 (reduced), £80 (standard), or £100 (pay-it-forward).
You’re welcome to choose an amount in between - there’s no judgment attached, and I trust you to choose what works best for you. If you’d like to discuss this further, I’m always open to a conversation.
I also offer Single Session Therapy - a focused, one-off session designed to support you with a specific issue, decision, or emotional block. Sometimes one conversation is enough to bring clarity, ease, or movement. You're welcome to book this as a standalone or to explore whether ongoing therapy feels right.
