About me
NOW OFFERING EMDR
You know that past experiences still affect how you feel, relate and respond to others. Friends and family might think everything is fine, no one else can see what you are feeling.
- You withdraw of isolate yourself from others.
- You have difficult family relationships, or tricky friendships and partners.
- You struggle in relationships.
- You may repeatedly choose the wrong partners, fall out with family and friends or feel stuck in the same painful patterns.
- You experience intense emotions, unstable moods, anxiety or harmful behaviours such as self-harm, binge eating or restricting
- Life can feel chaotic and out of control.
You want to understand why this keeps happening, regain some emotional stability and build healthier relationships, where your needs are recognised and met.
These patterns and emotions can feel overwhelming and isolating, leaving you feeling alone or misunderstood. Living with intense emotions, painful thoughts or behaviours that feel out of control can be exhausting and can affect how you see yourself and others.
Through our work together, I'll support you in developing coping strategies that manage emotional intensity, regulate anxiety and help you feel more grounded day to day. In exploring how your past experiences influence the present, we can make sense of emotional patterns, relationship difficulties and our ways of coping with these. Building emotional safety and awareness can support clearer thinking and a stronger understanding of yourself.
I also work with couples having difficulties in their relationship, this may be frequent arguments, feeling disconnected from each other or wanting to improve communication.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling & a qualified EMDR practitioner.
My approach is integrative, which means I use a number of different theories to inform the way we work together. This means we can develop a way of working which feels safe and at your pace. I have listed a few below to give you an idea
- Psychodynamic theory, this considers how your past experinces may influence your present, how we are drawn to similiar relationships which often repeat patterns from our youth.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) this can be helpful in unpicking some of tricky pattern.
- Gestalt Therapy, this can be useful to increase our emotional awareness and how it might be showing up in our bodies.
- Systemic therapy, this is used in couple work and to explore family systems to consider how the people around us may influence how we think and feel.
I will encourage you to notice what sensations and feelings you are aware of in your body to build awareness of how your mind and body are linked. . We will explore our relationship and try to notice some familiar patterns which may arise for you in other relationships.
You dont have to have everything worked out or know how to explain things clearly. Therapy can be a space where you can be yourself, let down your guard, not worry about how you will be judged. I offer a calm space to truly explore what you are feeling, at your pace.
Before I commenced my therapy training I worked as a mental health nurse, this experience sets me apart from many other therapists. I have supported a wide variety people experiencing mental health distress, in hospital, secure settings community clinics and mostly at home.
I worked in a specialist Personality Disorder service providing individual and group psychotherapy with people who had experienced complex trauma.
