About me

Hi, I’m Nicky, a qualified counsellor based in Winchester, offering both face-to-face and online sessions.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or that life has become harder to manage, or perhaps you're battling a nagging internal critic or have a sense that something just isn’t right any more, you're not alone. Whatever has led you here, I’m ready to listen to you.

What I can help with
I support people aged 16+ who are navigating a wide range of life challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and burnout
  • Difficult relationships (partners, parents, friends, or that tricky colleague)
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions, including the complexities of becoming or being a parent
  • Low self-esteem and self-criticism
  • Overwhelm and emotional exhaustion

How I can help you
For me, counselling is a space to sit with difficult emotions. It’s time away from the noise – a chance to make sense of your story, reconnect with who you are and explore how you can better relate to others without losing your sense of self.

I believe in a caring and collaborative way of working and offer a space where you can speak openly, without pressure, judgement or needing to have it all figured out. Everyone’s experience is different, and we will focus on what feels most helpful for you. Over time, I will be able to support deeper reflection and insight as you explore your experiences. I may gently challenge you, but will also sit with you in silence, supporting you through whatever comes up.

Understanding you
Our work will begin by identifying what you’d like to gain from counselling. We’ll go at your pace, focussing on what’s most important to you. That might include:

  • Tools and techniques to help you manage day-to-day struggles or feelings of overwhelm
  • Exploring what’s getting in the way of you feeling OK
  • Reflecting on past experiences or relationships that still affect you today
  • Understanding how your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviours
  • Noticing patterns, especially if you often wonder, “How did I end up here again?”
  • Setting and maintaining healthy boundaries
  • Making space for the things that matter to you
  • Introducing small moments of self-care into your day
  • Processing grief or loss, whether recent or something you’ve been carrying for a long time

Your first session
Your first session is a chance for us to meet and talk about what’s brought you to counselling. It’s an opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work and decide if it’s right for you. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you want to, and you’ll have time to ask questions about how I work and what to expect.

I’ll also take some basic details (GP, next-of-kin and any relevant medical history), so I can better understand your situation in context.

What matters most is that you feel safe, supported and comfortable. If, for any reason, that is not how you feel, it’s completely okay to say so and I’ll help you explore other options if you’d like. Likewise, if I believe your needs would be better supported elsewhere, I’ll be honest with you and offer a referral to a more appropriate professional.

My experience & approach
I have three years’ experience working from a Humanistic and Transactional Analysis perspective. This approach explores how early experiences and relationships may be shaping the way you think, feel and relate to others today. Transactional Analysis also helps to gain understanding of your inner critic, the people-pleaser, or the part of you that just wants reassurance or to be heard, so you can respond with more self-awareness and choice.

I’m ready to listen to you
Even if you’re not able to name exactly what you're feeling, if something just doesn’t feel right, that’s more than enough reason to get in touch to arrange an initial session. There’s no obligation beyond that.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
