About me

“What you resist, persists”!  Said Carl Jung.  We often resist or deny certain feelings or parts of ourselves that we do not accept, do not want and therefore, refuse to see.  It might be painful or seem impossible to face difficult feelings like sadness, guilt, shame or anger. Maybe it is too embarrassing to admit some feelings to another person.  Part of our work is about finding the hidden bits and exploring them in a safe space.

Maybe you don’t know why you feel the way you do, but if you are reading this, then something isn’t right for you and you would like to change it.

Together, we can explore some of the difficulties you are experiencing and try to make some sense of them.  It is by bringing the unwanted parts of yourself into awareness that you can begin to integrate them and start to understand yourself better.  By allowing this process to happen, you discover your defences and see how these prevent you from feeling okay within yourself.

The work can be challenging and not resisting the difficulties, is where much of the work is done as the defences start to break down.  I will guide you through the process, following your lead.  Carl Jung calls the bringing of the darker parts of the self into the light as, ‘Shadow Work’ and this resonates with me and my therapy practice.  I am passionate about people allowing their true selves to emerge.  The process may need time. How long will it take? How long is a piece of string? It varies from person to person.

A commitment to this process can lead to an inner transformation bringing a new feeling of freedom from within. This freedom can then be experienced in the external world.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Psychodynamic therapist and BACP member.  I have worked with both male and female clients during my time at Highgate Counselling Centre and in private practice.  I have delivered both long term and short term therapy.  I have seen clients transform and develop in ways that have had a positive impact on their lives.  It is an honour and a privilege to be in a position to facilitate this process and witness it as it gradually unfolds.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
