About me
I am passionate about helping people to grow in self-understanding, resilience and a sense of life-purpose.
Evidence-based psychotherapy is an effective treatment for a wide range of symptoms and types of distress. It offers a way of overcoming the barriers that limit our freedoms through personal development and enriched relationships.
I am a specialist psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor, offering therapy to individual adults with a range of emotional, psychological, interpersonal and behavioural issues. I have worked with mood related issues including anxiety, depression and low self-esteem to more complex, life-long and personality related issues.
My specialist interests are in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationships, sexuality, trauma and abuse.
I offer both fixed/ short-term and open-ended work either in-person, online or telephone.
Alongside my private practice, I am an honorary psychotherapist working in both the Trauma Unit at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and in the Specialist Psychotherapy Service at the East London NHS Foundation Trust. In these specialist settings I offer individual therapy to patients with PTSD and complex trauma presentations and group therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have been practising psychotherapy for over seven years and providing wider therapeutic support to children, young and mature adults for over fifteen years.
My background lies in the charity, education and social care sectors. Working within some of the most diverse and deprived communities within the UK has enabled me to gain insight into the many ways that social and cultural factors shape our psychological selves.
I am empathic to the unique ways we suffer as individuals and, from experience, understand how these struggles can become the start of a process serving new growth and freedom.
I bring the experience gained from my previous work and research to inform my way of working therapeutically, upholding the principles of inclusion, equality and safeguarding.
I hold a PGDip in Psychodynamic Theory & Practice (University of Roehampton), and an MA (University of Oxford).
I am a professional member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC), and also a clinical member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and the British Psychoanalytical Council (BPC).
I abide by the ethical code and professional standards of these organisations, including client confidentiality, and am committed to ongoing professional development. This is reflected in my current trainings which include: the Post-Foundation Course with the Institute of Psychoanalysis (IoPA), Mentalization-Based Therapy with the Anna Freud Centre and Group Analysis with the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
