About me

Hello, I’m Michelle – a counsellor based in Westbury-on-Trym, North Bristol.

I offer short- and long-term counselling for individuals and couples from my private home office in Westbury-on-Trym, North Bristol. As an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I provide a professional, compassionate, and confidential space where you can explore the challenges you may be facing.

Couples Therapy
I specialise in supporting couples using the Gottman Method, a research-based approach designed to help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, manage conflict more effectively, and strengthen emotional connection.

Couples often come to therapy feeling stuck in repeated arguments, emotionally disconnected, struggling after infidelity, or overwhelmed by the pressures of family life and parenting. Together, we work to understand the patterns within your relationship and develop healthier ways of relating, communicating, and reconnecting.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and non-blaming, creating a safe space where both partners feel heard and understood. Whether you are hoping to repair your relationship, deepen intimacy, or navigate a difficult period together, therapy can help you move towards more positive and lasting change.

Individual Therapy
Alongside couples work, I also support adults experiencing anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, addiction, grief, chronic pain, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties.

As an integrative therapist, I tailor therapy to your individual needs, drawing from approaches including Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Together, we can explore how past experiences and attachment patterns may be influencing the way you feel and respond today, helping you develop greater self-understanding and create meaningful change.

My work is trauma-informed and grounded in creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental environment where you can reconnect with yourself and move towards healing and growth.

Free 15-Minute Consultation
Finding the right therapist is an important step. I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation where you can ask questions, learn more about my approach, and see whether working together feels right for you.

Feel free to call or text me on 07729 980125 to arrange a consultation or ask any questions.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training, Qualifications & Experience
I hold a Master’s Degree with Distinction in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of the West of England. My integrative training enables me to draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Gestalt, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), allowing me to tailor therapy to each client’s individual needs.

I also hold a Level 3 Certificate in Gottman Method Couples Therapy from the The Gottman Institute. This evidence-based approach helps couples strengthen communication, manage conflict more effectively, rebuild trust, and deepen emotional and physical connection.

In addition, I spent two years working at the The Swan Project, supporting individuals experiencing addiction and recovery. This work deepened my understanding of how addiction is often connected to underlying experiences such as childhood trauma, grief, anxiety, shame, and depression, rather than existing in isolation.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked in higher education as a lecturer at the University of the West of England. This experience gave me valuable insight into the pressures faced by young adults and the emotional impact of stress, identity, relationships, and life transitions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

My areas of interest include challenges within family life including separation and affairs and looking at how communication and parental relationship can be managed to support positive outcomes in children when families break apart. This extends to childhood development and understanding how trauma and stress impact the body and can lay the foundations for challenges in adulthood.
