About us

The Heard Therapy CIC is a community interest company based in Somerset. We provide one to one and group opportunities for equine supported psychotherapeutic counselling and somatic therapies.

We work with clients as young as 9 up to and including adults. We have a team of directors and therapists alongside our team of 5 beautiful horses that help to provide our bespoke professional service.

We are honoured to work alongside our horses within nature to support the varying needs of our individual clients. There is no requirement for any horse experience and horse handling is also not a requirement. We pride ourselves on working to a highly ethical standard by working with clients and horses in a person centred and horse centred way which respects the choice and consent of both horse and human.

If there are nerves around horses we can support you with that to connect with them in a way that feels safe for you. On our track system we have the facilities and structure that enables clients to be behind a fence at all times, or to be in with the horses if they choose, there is never any pressure to do anything that feels too difficult.

The work is centred around an ethos of inclusion and acceptance both for horses and humans. We work with many neurodivergent clients and recognise how challenging it can be to attend school or work or be a part of society that is largely neurotypical, we also recognise the chronic oppression and trauma this can cause and the effect it has on the individuals stress levels, cnfidence and self esteem. Within our safe space of non judgement and acceptance we aim to provide a corrective experience of how it is to be seen and heard just as you are.

We extend this approach to other minority groups including the LGBTQ+i community, gender identity, people with different ethnic origins, cultural differences, learning differences, and disabilities.

We also work with individuals who have experienced trauma in their life, which can include early developmental trauma, childhood trauma, and other forms of trauma. We recognise that trauma can leave someone feeling isolated due to high levels of anxiety or feeling unsafe, we take the time to ensure that clients have what they need to support themselves and to make the therapy accessible, sometimes this may mean a slow introduction to therapy, or having a parent or safe person present for the first few sessions.

We are also accredited to work with impaired vision or sight loss with RNIB, offering a unique opportunity to work with horses therapeutically.

Our passion is that individuals get to experience what it is like to be seen, heard and valued, to be met just as they are, to provide conditons that support and felt sense of safety and allow authentic growth and development. The process facilitated by the therapist and is led by the client, and the wisdom of our equine partners.
