About me

Hi, I'm Melissa. My passion is to support folks to live a shame-free and fulfilling life. No matter the reason that you are seeking therapy, I would love to offer the time and space to collaborate with you in your journey of exploration and growth into the most authentic version of yourself.

Primarily I work within the person-centred approach, however, I will naturally tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs as our therapeutic relationship develops; this could range from anxiety coping mechanisms to psycho-education. We often get stuck in certain ways of being and thinking, but I believe that by allowing yourself to be curious and delve into your thoughts deeper with a mental health professional it can have a huge impact on your emotional wellbeing.

I have experience of working with a diverse range of concerns and mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation, also survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. I have a particular interest in sexual and relationship health and well-being and how the therapeutic process can help in these areas. I am neurodivergent and queer affirming in my practice.

During our work together I will welcome you as you are, with no judgement. Irrespective of your thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviours, they belong to you and I will accept them all equally. I will be open and honest throughout our sessions, supporting you in finding your own path through questions, reflection and empathy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer 50-minute therapy sessions either online, over the phone or face to face from a space in Helston; whichever feels like the most comfortable fit for you.

Before we commit to working together, I offer a 20-minute free consultation. The therapeutic relationship is paramount to your journey, so this will give us a chance to meet one another, discuss how we would work together and allow you to see if you think I would be the right fit for you.

I do have a small number of concessionary places in my practice, primarily for unemployed people, students and refugees. If you fall into these groups please do reach out.
