About me
I aim to support you to come alongside your thoughts, emotions and fears in a compassionate and constructive way. I believe that replacing self-criticism with curiosity and compassionate interest can enable positive and lasting change. Counselling provides a safe, confidential space, an opportunity to be listened to without judgement or interruption. My aim is to work collaboratively with you to explore what it is to be human, to understand what has led to the issues you face and to look at what can help you move forward positively.
I have 15 years experience working with clients with stress, anxiety, depression, abuse of all kinds and the associated trauma. I support people affected by cancer, other illnesses, bereavement and chronic pain. I seek to work in a holistic and intuitive way, clarifying, at the outset, what you hope to gain through the counselling work. For some, counselling can be existential, about finding meaning. For others, it may be more about specific strategies to deal with stress, overthinking, low mood and anxiety. I seek to listen closely and with respect to your experience and struggles.
Training, qualifications & experience
Level 5 qualification in Counselling, University of Worcester, 2012.
Ongoing CPD in various areas including anxiety, bereavement, compassion-focused therapy, trauma, abuse, spirituality and existentialism.
Breathworks Mindfulness Trainer 2011.
I have worked at the Bracken Trust Cancer care centre for 12 years and worked for the same amount of time at the CLD Trust in Hereford, working with children and adults. I am a Breathworks mindfulness teacher, and when appropriate, mindfulness tools can be integrated into counselling. Mindfulness can help with stress, anxiety, chronic pain and existential issues.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
