About me

There is a moment in life when you need to pause and look inside.

Where have you travelled so far?

Do you feel you are where you wanted to be or have you been pulled in some other direction?

You may be feeling worried about the future, about things going wrong, it may be difficult to stop negative thoughts that make you feel isolated and not good enough.

Maybe you feel a bit lost or overwhelmed, and you wonder if the life you have built for yourself is really making you happy, and whether there is more out there for you, but you cannot quite see a way forward.

Perhaps you are facing challenges with relationships, at home or at work. It may feel hard for you to stand up for yourself and ask for what you need, making you feel like you let yourself down again.

Or maybe you are finding it difficult to find the relationships that you want, spinning in circles in the never-ending carousel of dating, trying hard to find the right one, but ending up with yet another disappointment.

When you are in these situations, it becomes difficult to focus and be effective which makes life feel chaotic and stressful.

Therapy offers you a way forward, a way to pause and take the time to look at what brought you to where we are now, to gain control over your inner life and make the choices that are good for you.

The key for change lies within yourself, not outside.

What I can help you with

I work with a variety of issues, and I specialise in helping people with the following challenges:

- Anxiety, worrying and overthinking; Overcoming inner obstacles rooted in feeling unsafe or uprooted in life - symptoms can vary for everyone, but the most common include paralysing anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, overthinking, excessive worrying and OCD.

- ADHD and other neurodivergence; Learn how to manage attention deficits and hyperactivity and other types of neurodivergence such as autism and dyscalculia in your daily life and how to turn it into a distinctive factor to support your life journey.

- Relationships; Overcome difficulties in intimate relationships, friendships and with family and learn how to manage jealousy, anger and need for control, how to set healthy boundaries and how to ask for what is important for you.

- Self-esteem and confidence; Overcome self-defeating thoughts and feelings of self-worthlessness to have a better relationship with yourself and a more fulfilling social and professional life.

- Life and career transitions; Build more awareness of your life situation and explore possible changes to find out what is next on your path. Navigate the psychological challenges of transitional phases and times of uncertainty such as redundancy or divorce.

- Stress and burnout; Learn to manage the stress of a busy life at home and at work, taking a step back, becoming present, and prioritising what is most important. Work to make painful experiences such as burnout transformative.

- Men’s issues; Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone of your same gender. Difficulties with sex, dating and friendships may be easier to explore with another man. Together we will explore how to be a man in the modern world.

 About Me

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for over 15 years in the financial industry first, and then in sustainability across the UK, Italy and East Africa. I covered several positions, I led teams and mentored more junior colleagues. I also worked as a coach in a charity setting for people struggling to find employment.

Originally from Italy, I have lived in the UK for over a decade. I went through the complexities of adapting to a new culture and finding your identity and your space in a new context.

Get in touch

It is important to choose a therapist whom you connect with and trust.

To get a sense of how we can work together I offer a free introductory video call where you can ask any questions you may have about me and how therapy works.

You can book an introductory call on the Counselling Directory website or you can send me an email at oriani.counselling@gmail.com, or call me at +44 (0) 7946392570.

Health insurance

I am accredited with Vitality Health and IPRS. If you have a policy with one of these insurances, then the cost of the sessions will be covered by them.

Approach

I trained in Psychosynthesis, an integrative and transpersonal approach that emphasises self‑development and the search for meaning and purpose in life.

If traditional approaches to psychotherapy focus on understanding your present and past experience, Psychosynthesis adds the future dimension, trying to answer questions such as:

-  What is trying to emerge for you?
-  How can things become different?
-  How can you develop will and create change in your life?

I integrate techniques from other modalities, including CBT, Person‑Centred, Gestalt and Existential approaches, into my work.

I trained in mindfulness techniques, and I offer them when useful to manage symptoms.

I have special interest and specific training in image-based therapy, drawing from Jungian psychology. Although we will mainly be talking, where appropriate, I will introduce image-based techniques - such as guided imagery and drawing techniques, to develop your imagination because no change is possible unless it can first be imagined.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
