About me

I am an experienced Existential therapist and as such I meet clients where they are as individuals in their own worlds rather than as a set of symptoms or problems to be resolved. I will greet you with gentleness and an open, respectful attitude. I support clients in their endeavour to understand themselves and their worlds better through an exploration of what things mean to them, what is important to them, and their emotional reactions to their experiences and to the people in their lives. I will challenge your assumptions and any contradictions in what you say.

I will encourage you to view your life from different perspectives, come to terms with uncertainties and be open to new possibilities and choices. I am also a mother and have been a carer for a parent with dementia.

I have lived to experience many of the challenges that I hear from my clients. This does not mean that I assume anything but I believe that having lived through a lot of the negative things life can throw at a person, I have a fair idea. I am a deeply compassionate person and work hard to support my clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent’s University London and I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Society for Existential Analysis. I have studied a variety of therapeutic approaches and specialise in the Existential approach, which (in short) considers each person as an individual not as a set of symptoms or problems to be resolved. I am experienced at working with, among others, mid-life professionals, parents of teenagers with mental health issues, spousal carers, the bereaved, people going through divorce, and clients with drug and alcohol dependency.

I adhere to the Ethical Frameworks of the United Kingdom Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the BACP. I attend regular supervision with a UKCP registered supervisor and CPD training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
