About me

Hello and welcome to my St Helens based private Counselling/Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Supervision practice. Friendly and immediate professional help that is tailored to your individual needs. Flexible, cost effective therapy from an experienced and established therapist.

To achieve maximum benefit from the counselling sessions, it is important to ensure there is a good "fit" between therapist and client, before undertaking the work. Also careful consideration is needed to establish whether the "problems " that a client is having difficulty with are suitable for counselling/Psychotherapy or Hypnotherapy.

I offer an initial 30 minute consultation for us to discuss what is troubling, and to decide on the best way forward. The consultation fee is £10. This fee is deducted off the first session if we decide to go forward with the therapy.
After the initial consultation, there is no obligation to continue. I offer flexible appointments. My appointments are from 8am until 7pm Monday to Friday

Initial enquiry

If you would like to make an appointment or find out more about the services I offer, please contact me by telephone or email, or browse my website at the top of this page. I will be happy to talk to you about my Counselling, Hypnotherapy and Supervision practice. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, to help you decide whether you would like to book a consultation.

Initial 30 minute consultation

We can explore your current situation together and any goals you may have, which will help in determining the best support for you. The aim is for us to decide together whether Counselling/Psychotherapy, or Hypnotherapy would be most suitable for you, or if a referral to another service would be more appropriate.

Counselling/Psychotherapy sessions

I offer brief time limited work and open ended work. If we decide to work together, we would negotiate and agree on an initial number of sessions with a review date so that we can monitor the benefit that you will be receiving from our work together. At the review we can decide whether to end or continue the work.

Feedback from some clients suggest significant benefit has arisen from just one session. Some clients may just need a few sessions to clarify their current situation and make decisions about a particular problem. Others prefer to work more long term to help them discover new possibilities and make changes, so that they can lead a more satisfying and meaningful life.

Please note you are free to end your therapy at any point. However, if you are deciding to end, it can prove useful for both client and therapist to have an ending session, to work through any left over process from the work. Past and current clients have reported the ending session as providing a powerful and valuable opportunity for two way reflection and feedback on positive progress achieved during therapy, along with a deeper engagement in life.

About Me
Back in 1996 I began my main helping career working with older people with dementia.
Following this, I trained as a Mentor helping people to successfully overcome barriers to employment. It was during the mentoring I became aware that underpinning some clients barriers to employment, lay deeper feelings  of diminished self worth, low confidence, anxiety, anger and relationship difficulties, amongst others.

It was primarily in these relationships that my intuition and further training needs led me to enter the therapeutic counselling field.

During my training and beyond, I spent a number of years working therapeutically with survivors of sexual violence, and with an agency specializing in bereavement and loss.

From 2004-2014 I successfully delivered counselling/therapeutic services for Wigan Metropolitan Council.

For the Council, I provided individual counselling, and couple counselling to adults, individual counselling work with children and young people involved in social care, individual counselling for adult carers (loss and bereavement)  and counselling adults who use the Surestart children centres, along with therapeutic group work.

I also delivered group work, workshops, training, and in-house supervision for trainee and qualified counsellors as part of my role in the Local Council.

And now...

I work full time in my established private practice.

I am able to offer you flexible appointments tailored to your unique requirements, and always give 100% to helping people to develop, grow and change in ways that are right for them.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
