About me

As a Relational Centered Counsellor I'm curious about the relationship that unfolds between you and I, as therapist and client. In any given moment, our past experiences are present; in how we feel about ourselves, connect with others, & how we make sense of the world around us.

Do you feel unease in your life and are unsure why? Are you experiencing difficulty in your relationships with others? Are you finding everyday things you ordinarily do well, difficult to deal with and need some help to understand why this may be?

Exploring such experiences within the safe boundaries of a therapeutic relationship provides an opportunity to better understand your patterns of relating & how these may be influencing your life right now.

As your awareness and understanding of these patterns increase, you may realise there are new choices you can make that will help to improve your emotional and relational well-being. Working through these choices isn't easy and may well lead to making some difficult decisions, hence there is no prescribed, or fixed amount of sessions.

Your needs are individual & relevant to your own life story. Ordinarily, we'd meet for an initial session with a view to meeting again for several more. During this time, we can talk about further sessions if required.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm a UKCP registered, Relational Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.  I trained for five years at SCPTI, and since then have been in private practice for over ten years.

I offer both short term and long term therapy, in person, working from SCPTI in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I'm qualified as a Relational Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. In simple terms, this means that the therapeutic relationship is central to our work together. It is often written, that the modality of a therapist is not the defining factor in how effective therapy may be - it is the relationship between therapist and client that provides the most defining outcome.

I offer a safe, supportive and understanding space in which you can openly explore whatever is causing you unease and difficulty in your life at this time.
