About me

Carl Rogers said ‘When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive the world in a new way.’ For many of us, it is not easy to step away from our everyday lives and look inwards. I offer a space where you can do this, and where you will be wholeheartedly accepted just as you are. All feelings are welcome in the counselling room. I believe that there is great power in simply being heard and understood, without fear of judgment. I offer warmth and compassion to help you feel safe to reflect on what is troubling you. We will be taking this journey together; letting your story unfold in a natural way and gently exploring ways of achieving healing and growth.

Our life experiences, often beyond our control, can bring us to a point of confusion, shame or uncertainty. We may behave in ways that surprise us and which we don’t understand. We may feel stuck and unable to move forwards. Change feels out of reach, however hard we try. When brought to the counselling space and explored openly, there can be great relief and new doors can open.

About me

I am a qualified Person-Centred therapist and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I have many years of experience helping people with the process of change. In doing so I have worked with a wide variety of difficulties, including addiction, compulsive behaviours, trauma, relationship problems, personality disorder, depression, anxiety and more severe mental health problems.

I have a personal interest in the issue of overeating and having a challenging relationship with food or weight. It is often difficult to find the right sort of help for this problem. In counselling, it can be explored on a deeper level, focusing on why we overeat, not what we eat. If this is a problem for you, I hope you will find a new perspective and a different approach.

As a registered member of the BACP, I work in accordance with their ethical framework and standards. I maintain my professional development through regular supervision and ongoing training.

Counselling takes place in comfortable, stylish rooms at the Tranquil Living Wellbeing Centre in the centre of Skipton, with ample parking nearby.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
