Psychodynamic Psychotherapist & Supervisor (Accredited)

About me

I am a fully qualified and registered Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Supervisor, offering Psychodynamic Psychotherapy in Basingstoke for Individuals/ Couples and Groups. Including Adolescents and Young people.

I run my private practice from Monday to Friday, where I see clients for daytime and evening appointments.

Prior to this, I have experience working since 1996, within the NHS, Social Care, Primary Care, Private and Voluntary Sectors, specialising in the treatment and management of Mental Health problems, including Addiction, Eating Disorders, Personality Disorders and Sexual Abuse

This experience has given me knowledge and understanding which enables me to work effectively with primary issues such as Loss and Bereavement, Low Self- esteem, Relationship problems, Bullying, Depression, Anxiety and Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder and Gender / Sexuality issues. As well as more complex issues such as Developmental Trauma, Sexual Abuse, Complex PTSD, Bipolar/ Manic Depression, Personality Disorder, Morbid Jealousy, Childhood Attachment issues and Abuse of all types.

First Session:

The first session is an opportunity to meet, discuss your needs and requirements, ask questions, and decide whether my style of working is right for you. This is also an assessment to see if I can help you with your concerns.

Types of therapy:

I offer both short-term and long-term therapy to individuals, young people, couples, and Groups.

  • Short-term therapy    (which can also be a trial process for the client and an assessment process for the therapist if longer-term work is decided upon at a further date). Both parties then consider and negotiate further sessions where appropriate.
  • Long-term therapy is usually discussed from the onset or after a period of short-term therapy. This is the client's choice again.

About Me:

My interest is understanding how different life experiences shape us and make us who we become, and how that can go on to affect our day-to-day life in the present. Understanding how we consciously and unconsciously make choices in how we conduct our daily lives and how we relate to others has always been a key interest, alongside exploring ways we can begin to make better choices for ourselves.

Understanding the types of relationships we build and how our behaviour and responses are shaped by these experiences helps us make the necessary changes to build better relationships and improve our quality of life. Therapy helps to live a full and content life, without the pain and suffering of ongoing personal concerns and issues. Which can at times persist throughout our lives.

My clients have been key in extending my understanding and experience, and in deepening my theoretical knowledge and continuing personal development. It has added great value to what I can offer by helping me understand how to support someone through their concerns and difficulties in an ethical and professional way, with the utmost concern for their privacy and well-being.

I initially started working in Mental Health in 1996, which led to my original study of Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2001.

Throughout this time, I have worked in all types of clinical settings from Inpatient units, to community settings, counselling agencies, and Psychotherapy Establishments, and private practice. Experiencing a wide range of problems, with specialist training and opportunities for continuous personal development.
Such as:(Depression, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Bipolar or Manic Depression, Relationship Issues, Eating Disorders, Body Issues, Domestic Abuse & Violence, Anger Management, Sexual Abuse, Self-esteem. Addictions and Substance Misuse).

I have undergone considerable training, continue to develop, and have many years of reflection and effective practice, both personally and professionally. I believe that, because of this, I have developed a sound, well-integrated style using knowledge and ideas from approaches, including specialist training.

Therefore, I believe what I can offer you is a very informed, professional meeting high ethical standards and an effective way of working which will be very useful in your day-to-day living.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
