About me
Hi I’m Mairi,
I worked as a qualified nurse for 25 years. I learned a lot in that time and have seen people at their most vulnerable. One of the most important things I learned was that people want their experience acknowledged. People need to be listened to. It was during my time as a nurse that I decided to take an Open University degree in psychology. This gave me insight into myself as well as learning about human nature the needs and wants of people. After gaining my degree, I continued in my studies to obtain my diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling. During this time of studying, I was also caring for a loved one where professional knowledge and personal lines crossed. I can see caring from both sides and I have insight into how that challenges you as an individual. Caring is a difficult role, whether it’s in professional or personal sense.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Higher Education Diploma in Adult Nursing from Dundee University.
A BSc in Psychology from the Open University.
A level 4 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Chrysalis.
I now work in a carers centre as a counsellor. This was where I did the placement part of my counselling training and was given my role there in 2024.

Further information
There is no such thing as “one size fits all “ when it comes to a person’s experience. On our first session you can tell me what is happening and how you feel that you got there and from there I can help you through this challenging part of your life using the different perspectives that I have.
I use a pluralistic approach to counselling this means that I can use these different perspectives to help you. Giving you a tailored made counselling experience & with support make the changes that you feel you want to make.
