About me

Perhaps you’ve been holding a lot on your own.

Sometimes in life, things become difficult to manage. You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, struggling with relationships, questioning yourself, or finding it difficult to make sense of what you’re feeling.

Or you can’t quite put your finger on what feels wrong. You just know that something doesn’t feel right, or you feel stuck. Perhaps you’re now at a point where you’d like somewhere to put some of what you’ve been carrying.

Whatever brings you here, we can start there.

How I work

My approach is warm, genuine and centred around you. I want our sessions to be somewhere you can arrive exactly as you are, without judgement or pressure to have the right words.

As a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor, I believe you are the expert in your own life. Rather than telling you what you should do, or trying to fix you, I'll work alongside you, offering a space to pause, explore your experiences and understand yourself more deeply.

I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is an important part of the therapeutic process. Being genuinely listened to, understood and accepted can offer a different experience from relationships we may have known before, creating space to explore things that may have felt difficult to put into words elsewhere.

Difficult experiences can leave us carrying shame, guilt, self-doubt, or feeling that there is something wrong with us. We may learn to hide parts of ourselves, put other people’s needs first, or find it difficult to trust our own feelings and judgement.

Together we can gently explore these experiences, emotions and patterns, and how they may be affecting the way you see yourself, your relationships and the world around you. I recognise that our bodies can hold aspects of our emotional experiences, so I may gently draw attention to body processes and non-verbal communication alongside what you share.

You don't need to have a particular reason to come to counselling. If something is affecting you or you simply want to understand yourself better, that is enough.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training and Qualifications:

  • First Class, BA (Hons) Human Behavioural Studies.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Therapy.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Childhood Education.
  • Level 2 Counselling Skills.

Experience:

During my counselling training, I gained experience working as a counsellor with West Cornwall Women’s Aid. I supported clients who were affected by trauma, including domestic abuse and sexual violence.

I practise from a trauma-informed, person-centred perspective, recognising the lasting impact that difficult and traumatic experiences can have on our wellbeing and sense of self.

My degree in Human Behavioural Studies developed my understanding of human behaviour, emotions and relationships. It enabled me to discover a particular interest in the restorative qualities of nature.

I spent 4 years working in settings supporting autistic children and adults with significant support needs. During my counselling training, I worked with DREADNOUGHT, offering play-based therapy to neurodivergent children and young adults. These experiences strengthened my understanding of the importance of seeing each person as an individual and adapting my approach to their needs.

I have personal experience of different forms of talking therapy and have found Person-Centred counselling to be transformative. It is my hope that, through our work together, you too can experience the benefits of having a safe, accepting space to understand yourself and move towards meaningful change.

I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical framework. I attend regular supervision and am committed to both personal and professional development through ongoing learning.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
