About me
I am a person-centred integrative counsellor for individuals and couples. It is a privilege to work with clients. I hold a safe, accepting, empowering space where we explore what you are going through. I do not believe people are 'broken', but the results of carrying too much can weigh very heavily. You may not know what is 'wrong with you' but simply feel something 'isn't right'. Anxiety is a state which seriously impacts many people, but there are deeply held reasons for what is often a state of self protection.
For many of my clients experiences of loss, trauma, not being heard, rejection and low self-esteem are extremely painful and impact their lives, sometimes for many years. There are numerous individual reasons and causes for these feelings. Often, these experiences have been put away by clients, so as to survive and get on with life. The fact is that they do not go away. With proper help it is possible to look at, resolve and come to terms with what has been affecting your life, sometimes in surprising ways, sometimes for a long time.
Everyone is unique, so through building the counselling relationship with you, I find whatever is the most effective way to help you develop and move forward. I work with you to reflect on experiences and realisations to enable you to live a life with less distress, difficulty and pain, and to engage with those around you and the world in a healthy and fulfilling way.
COUPLES THERAPY
Many couples come to couples therapy to find a way to stop the endless, painful cycle of unhealthy or non communication. In actual fact, what is needed is to find a way to connect first. Unless we feel securely and safely connected to our partner and that we are not under threat, no amount of communication will feel right. Then the cycle continues.
There can be many underlying reasons for this struggle. A big part of the work for couples is to realise that we can't be OK in relationship unless we are OK in ourselves. When this realisation happens the blame game and the pain and exhaustion lessens and it is easier to hear each other, accept and to step back from self protection and defence. Many times in relationship we are reacting to the ghosts of past experiences, people in our background and deeply rooted feelings and resentments. It is crucial to uncover those links so we can be freer to realise in the present what is really going on for you. That is part of the way forward.
It is a priviledge to spend time with clients and I'm so grateful for what some have said about their experience....
'Thank you for helping me to understand why I do the things I do and feel the way I feel'.
'Very impressed. It felt easy and safe to trust and build a constructive relationship with Lucie'
'Lucie has helped me massively slow down my over-thinking, over-analysing mind. After trying previous counsellors, I was sceptical that counselling was for me but starting with Lucie was completely different as she was so calm and gave helpful tactics to reflect on and use in my day to day life. I'm very grateful for all her help'.
'My only wish would be that I could spend an hour every week with Lucie. I feel so much better than when I first came to see her. She was completely on my wavelength'.
'I felt heard and validated which was completely nourishing and helped me to trust my own self and my intuition, something I have always struggled with. Working with Lucie was invigorating and has left me feeling positive and empowered'.
In private practice and at Counselling Plus and St Michael's Hospice I have worked with diverse clients from all backgrounds with many different issues of all ages (adults).

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
