About me
Are you feeling overwhelmed by something that is happening in your life, or trying to come to terms with something that happened in your past? I am Louise, a skilled and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, and I may be able to help you.
I am a warm and compassionate registered relational psychotherapist and counsellor, skilled at building an effective therapeutic relationship, which will give us the basis to explore what you want to work on. Working weekly with adults, either on a short or longer term basis, I have a practice based in a beautiful, soothing space in central Devizes, North Wiltshire. I have designed the space to feel welcoming and cosy, with wide comfy chairs and blankets. Online sessions are also available.
I provide a safe supportive environment, to work sensitively with you, as you navigate the challenges your life brings, and your relationships with others. I am experienced in working with anxiety, depression, issues from childhood, low self esteem and issues of identity, as well as with those who have had adverse life experiences and with bereavement and loss. I am experienced in working with adults of all ages.
I work in a way which combines safe support and listening, to build an effective therapeutic relationship, which will allow you space to explore what is happening for you. I will invite you to reflect support you to make connections, and to understand where you are. I work with how you think and how you feel, and connect that with how your body responds too. Where it feels helpful, I will offer an alternative perspective.
My in depth integrative training means that I have been trained in and can draw on a breadth of psychotherapeutic theories and approaches. I mostly combine relational humanistic theories which work well together. I put my clients at the centre of my work, and awareness of what has happened to you, is central to our work. I am committed to social justice, and work in a compassionate way. I am interested in your experience of the world to date, and at the moment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Middlesex University, and Diplomas in Clinical Integrative Psychotherapy and Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Metanoia Institute. I have worked with clients since 2018. I have mostly worked in private practice, and also have experience of working in a low cost agency, and a short placement in an NHS crisis team.
I am accredited by UKCP, and a member of BACP and Metanoia Institute which means that I have committed to work within the ethical standards and frameworks of these organisations.
I believe in the importance of therapists knowing themselves, and have had extensive personal therapy. I also have regular supervision and am committed to ongoing professional development.
I have completed training in working online with the Online Therapy Institute, safeguarding training, and I hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I also have experience of leadership roles in a corporate environment, and of primary education.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
