About me
Starting the process of counselling or therapy can feel daunting. Whether you are experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship, childhood or self esteem difficulties or just a sense of unease, I am a mature, compassionate, fully qualified and insured BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor with a profound understanding of human suffering. I have worked within the field of science communication for over 20 years and believe that therapy is a both an art and a science.
The therapeutic relationship is unlike any other. It is not the same as talking to a friend or even a GP. The process of sharing difficult experiences with a trained professional who is attuned to your unique history, relationships and needs can help make sense of struggles which might otherwise be confusing or overwhelming. This process can help to resolve specific difficulties as well as more intangible feelings that something just doesn't feel 'right'.
I am an integrative therapist which means that I draw on a number of different approaches to support our work together based on your individual needs. I currently work with clients referred by NHS GPs but I also see clients privately. I offer individual, weekly therapy to people over 18 years old.
I have previously worked with young people in the charitable sector and older adults in long-term care. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. I am also a member of the British Psychological Society's Media Ethics Advisory Group.
Following an initial free 20 minute consultation to determine if we are a good 'fit,' we would agree an initial schedule of sessions - usually 8 - 12 weeks - after which we can discuss the option of further sessions. Each session lasts 50 minutes during which time I will help you to express and explore your concerns and we will work together towards meaningful change.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I am committed to ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and supervision of my clinical practice. I also abide by the BACP's 'Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions'.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Client testimonials:
'I have never encountered such a caring and transformative therapist. The way Louise consistently goes above and beyond is truly unparalleled. Her patience, attentiveness and dedication to truly understanding my needs are beyond anything I have ever experienced. Her insight, warmth and unwavering support have made a profound difference in my mental and emotional well-being. I am endlessly grateful for her impact and I know her work will continue to inspire and uplift others, just as it has done for me' (female NHS client, 50s).
'I can’t even put into words how life-changing therapy with Louise has been. Every session was treated with so much compassion and understanding. I always felt like it was a completely safe space to be myself, and to finally be honest with someone I knew would be accepting. Thank you for giving me the strength to live the life I’d hidden in my head'
(female client, 20s).
'It is quite difficult to summarise what a powerful impact Louise’s sessions have had on my life. Initially, it was her warm tone on the introductory phone call that helped me feel this was the right choice, as I had wanted to go to therapy for years. Still, then as the sessions began I quickly realised her natural and calm demeanour gave me the right balance of nurturing and honesty I needed and it became my safe place. I also appreciate that Louise is completely herself in our sessions, non-judgemental, and just a fantastic listener that you can laugh and cry with.
Over the last two years, I have had regular sessions with Louise initially for generalised anxiety and I can say that she has helped me immensely with building strategies, I feel stronger, and confident, like me again only better and it has helped me in every aspect of my life. I am so grateful to you, Louise. I can’t thank you enough' (female client, 30s)
'I couldn't have asked for a better therapist' (female client, 70s)
'For the first time I have been feeling amazing and I was able to sit and complete tasks I couldn't do for a very long time and see myself beautiful as a human. It can only take wonderful souls to work with people at their lowest point in life. I can tell you now that I am very happy to face every morning with a smile'
(female client, 40s)
'Absolutely A class. Louise has an uncanny ability to make you dive into your emotions to understand your feelings'
(male client, 30s)
'Louise, you have made a difference to my life. I am extremely grateful to have met such a kind person. I hope you continue to touch the lives of those who need it the most' (female client, 20s)
'I was able to find myself....open my mind and trust myself again' (female client, 40s)
'Louise was fantastic, attentive and always in tune with my emotional mood. She was probing but not pushy, and helped me see connections when I could not. Would thoroughly recommend her to anyone' (male client, 30s)
'Louise listened to me patiently and did not impose her own views on me; rather, she guided me to answers and possibilities through my own reflections. I have learned a lot from her and feel like I have answers to the questions I came to her with and a wider set of tools to deal with the challenges I was facing. Thank you, Louise' (female client, 20s)
