About me
Psychotherapeutic Counsellor MBAP (Reg)
I'm a BACP qualified and a registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, experienced in supporting adults, children and adolescents. I offer support with a range of presenting issues including anxiety, attachment issues, depression, grief and loss, identity and gender issues, panic attacks, self-esteem, self-confidence, sexuality, stress, work-related issues, relational and developmental trauma, relationship difficulties, parental guidance, breakdown in family relations, and other mental health issues.
Reaching out for support is a brave step in the right direction. Therapy can help when we are struggling with certain events, emotions, physical symptoms, relationships and situations. There are times we may feel isolated and alone, or lost and hopeless, or just not quite ourselves, unsure of what’s wrong and what will help. Therapy can help you make sense of it all by gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and others around you. It is through this increased awareness that we can work together to facilitate self-compassion, acceptance, healing and growth.
I provide a compassionate, trauma informed, confidential, non-judgemental and emotionally safe space for us to explore whatever it is you or your child are facing.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained with and qualified from the award winning Northern Guild, Newcastle on UKCP and BACP accredited course for Psychotherapeutic Counselling.
Upon qualification I worked for two years with a non-profit organisation as a therapist to children, young people and their families. before branching out into full-time private practice.
I also have a Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Level 2 qualification which is a type of psychotherapy that helps children and young people build and repair relationships with their caregivers or parents.
I am trauma-informed, hold a specialist qualification to work with children and young people, am an approved provider for Adoption North East and am trained in the use of creative media, metaphor and imagery.
Prior to becoming a therapist I was a teacher both in the UK and overseas for a total of 25 years.
I hold an Enhanced DBS and indemnity insurance and am registered with the ICO.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is a type of psychotherapy that helps parents/carers understand and respond in a more helpful empathetic way to their child's challenging behaviours. It is especially helpful to parents or carers who's children may have suffered trauma and have relational trauma. It is also helpful for any parents who want to understand their child's behaviour and respond more appropriately.
