About me

Psychotherapeutic Counsellor MBACP (Reg)

I'm a BACP qualified and a registered psychotherapeutic counsellor, experienced in supporting adults, children and adolescents. I offer online and in-person therapy tackling a range of presenting issues such as; anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem, stress and relationship difficulties.  I specialise in attachment wounds and relational and developmental trauma.

People often come to me wanting clarity about why they are the way they are, and a desire to relate to themselves and others differently. Through our work together, many find a deeper self-understanding that facilitates acceptance, healing and growth, opening the door to more authentic, self-determined ways of being.

Therapy can help when we are struggling with certain events, emotions, physical symptoms, relationships and situations. There are times we may feel isolated and alone, or lost and hopeless, or just not quite ourselves, unsure of what’s wrong and what will help. Our sessions will help you make sense of it all, gain a deeper understanding of yourself and of those around you. It is through this increased awareness that we work together to facilitate self-compassion, acceptance, healing and growth.

I also offer Therapeutic Parent Consultations, to help parents make sense of their child's emotional world and better understand their child's emotional distress, challenging behaviours, or mental health difficulties. These sessions provide a reflective, non-judgemental space to explore what may be going on in the child's internal world, what might be triggering the difficulties, and how parents can respond in ways that feel more attuned and effective.

I provide a compassionate, trauma-informed, confidential, non-judgemental and emotionally safe space for us to explore whatever it is you or your child are facing.

If any of this resonates, I'd be glad to hear from you. Call, write, or message me to talk about how I can help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained with and qualified from the award winning Northern Guild, Newcastle on UKCP and BACP accredited course for Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

Upon qualification I worked for two years with a non-profit organisation as a therapist to children, young people and their families before branching out into full-time private practice.

I also have a Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) Level 2 qualification which is a type of psychotherapy that uses attachment-focused therapy designed for children and young people experiencing or have experienced developmental trauma, often within adoptive, foster, or kinship care but not exclusive to.

I am trauma-informed and hold a specialist qualification to work with children and young people. I am an approved provider for Adoption North East and am trained in the use of creative media, metaphor and imagery.

Prior to becoming a therapist I was a teacher both in the UK and overseas for a total of 25 years.

I hold an Enhanced DBS and indemnity insurance and am registered with the ICO.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is a type of psychotherapy that helps parents/carers understand and respond in a more helpful empathetic way to their child's challenging behaviours.   It is especially helpful to parents or carers who's children may have suffered trauma and have relational trauma.  It is also helpful for any parents who want to understand their child's behaviour and respond more appropriately.
