About me

Hi I'm Lizzie (they/them), I am fully qualified and accredited by the NCPS, I am DBS checked and I work with adults aged 18+. I am experienced in working with abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, identity and have worked with carers. Often there are many factors that play into the emotional distress that you may be experiencing. The most important thing is that we can establish a trusting relationship where you feel safe enough to start engaging with whatever is troubling you. I am here to help you move forward with your life, to make sense of your emotions, trust yourself and start living a fulfilled life.

I approach my clients as individuals, there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to people's identities, relationships and emotions. I am an affirmative counsellor and I believe that the cultural context of our lives is integral to processing how we feel about ourselves and the world around us. I am queer and trans/non-binary myself and have an open, inclusive approach so my clients are free to bring their whole self to our sessions; particularly the parts that stay hidden due to mistreatment, discrimination and oppression.

Email or call me to arrange a free initial chat of 20 minutes, or to book your first session.

When you first come to counselling you might not know exactly where to begin, or you may have a clear idea of where you want to start. Either way, we will work together to start exploring your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations so that you can make sense of whatever you are experiencing.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am fully qualified, accredited by the NCS and DBS checked. I am experienced in working with abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, social anxiety, panic attacks and generally feeling sad. I am here to help you gain back confidence, be more engaged in your life and have more fulfilling relationships.

Being an affirmative counsellor, I am aware that the rules and expectations of society can feel draining.  For those of us who fall outside of cultural norms this may be overwhelming. On top of the daily stressors that everyone faces, those with marginalised identites experience Minority Stress as a result of the interpersonal and systemic discrimination they face. This may go unoticed and leave you feeling like you are not good enough for not being able to 'cope' with life, you may even experience feelings of anxiety and/or depression. Over time this can lead to self-gaslighting thoughts such as "I'm being too sensitive" or "It's not that bad" and "other people have it worse than me". Contact me and together we can start to gently challenge this.
