About me

~ The greatest gift you can give yourself is to know who you are~

Hello and welcome! My name is Lisa and I’m a Neurodivergent, Person-Centred Therapist.

Person-centred at its heart means that our sessions will be led by you. This means I’m interested in how you see the world.  I don’t analyse or make judgements.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or caught in patterns of thinking that are hard to break. Perhaps your mind feels busy or self-critical, or you’re struggling to make sense of your thoughts and feelings. I offer a warm, supportive space where you can begin to explore these experiences safely, without fear of judgement

Free Intro Chat:

I want you to feel comfortable in choosing me as your therapist so I offer a free introductory session. This allows you to ask me any questions about counselling, as well as preferred times and frequency of sessions.

You can email me with your preferred availability and I will do my best to accommodate. Alternatively, you can select Book Intro Call using the options at the top of my profile

What I offer:

  • I offer 60-minute sessions online or by telephone. This allows you the flexibility to complete sessions from the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you.
  • I offer concessionary rates for those on low income and trainee counsellors
  • I aim to be both neuro-affirmative and gender-affirmative in my practice, and areas of speciality include working with neurodivergent and queer identities as well as related stresses and complex trauma.
  • I offer a free chat with no pressure to commit to any further sessions.

A little bit about me:

I currently work online out of my home in Sefton, with the company of my two furball cats.

I completed my Post-graduate Diploma in Person-Centred and Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy and I’m currently completing my masters in Counselling, with a special interest on obsessive-compulsive processes.

I know what it’s like to live with anxiety and depression; to be neurodivergent and feel isolated from the rest of the world. I also understand the process of self-diagnosis, and the grief that can come should you choose to seek a formal diagnosis; having recently received my own ADHD diagnosis. This experience means I also know how big a step it is when seeking counselling.

What to expect:

In our sessions, you should expect a relaxed space. Whilst therapy can be difficult and challenging, I am committed to creating an environment which allows you to unpack your thoughts and emotions safely, fostering your autonomy and self-growth.

Together, we will work on empowering you and strengthening your self-awareness, to make meaningful changes in your life.

Whether you're facing anxiety, relationship issues, or life's transitional challenges, I am here to listen, understand, and help you navigate through those experiences.

Email me for a free chat to get started. I look forward to being a part of your healing journey.

As a neurodivergent individual who knows what it is like to be stigmatised, I also understand the impact this can have on one’s self-worth and self-esteem; as such,  I am passionate about exploring how such processes develop from a client-centred lens, and moving away from language which can be de-humanising.

When I sought help, my options in what therapeutic approach to take were limited. However, person-centred counselling changed my life. Rather than focus on changing the way I behaved, I was able to heal from wounds that had caused my anxiety to begin with. This is why is am passionate about offering understanding and compassionate person-centred care for those who have had similar struggles.

I also work with clients who’ve struggled with;

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • History of complex trauma
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Processes

Notable previous experience includes working with;

  • Vulnerable adults and young persons
  • Men’s mental health and crisis intervention
  • Individuals’ living with addiction and substance misuse.
  • Carers

I have a background in private healthcare and so have special experience in helping those who live with stress brought on by caring for others, whether that be for family members or in a paid role.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Into chat:

During our intro chat, we can talk about what you’re looking for in counselling as well as your preferred session times and frequency. If everything sounds good we can book our first session or you can take time away to decide.

Our first session:

First sessions can sometimes feel a bit tricky. After all, it’s the beginning of our therapeutic relationship.

This will be your space to speak about any difficulties you have been struggling with, and we can form an idea of how you would like future sessions to look.

Next steps:

If what you’ve read so far feels like a good match, then please get in touch. If however, you’re unsure about anything then please feel free to drop me an email.

I will always aim to reply as soon as possible, within 24hours. However, in the midst of activity, please allow up to 2 working days for a reply.
