About me

I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor working within Liverpool city centre.

Most people request support from me when they have exhausted their own options and don't know where to turn next and are having a hard time keeping it together one way or other.  People come to talk to me about the realities they are facing and struggling with like relationship breakdowns, life losses, worries about their partners and children, students who are struggling with friendships and relationships, various life transitions and unexpected feelings, not being where you think you ought to be in life, family secrets or revelations, disappointments and regret, worries about not coping and the way it comes out in drinking to much, eating habits, spending, drug use and much, much more.

I offer a professional yet down to earth service in which to explore your difficulties whatever they may be. The aim isn't to diagnose you or the issues you are struggling with, it's to provide a relationship where you can explore how you feel in confidence to feel less alone.

Hourly sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, usually in an open ended way where you get to decide how long you want support for. Some people come for a few sessions, some for a few months and others decide to come more longer term over years. Many people now use therapy to return to over time, re-accessing support when it's needed most with someone who knows them and their life.

I aim to offer an introductory appointment within a week and you can decide if counselling and my approach feels right for you. I have a small number of concession spaces I can offer during quieter times in my working day - there can be a waiting list for a concession space.

I can also make recommendations of other therapists who work in specialist areas I do not cover (children, EMDR and male therapists)

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a full member of UKCP and trained at Metanoia Institute London.

Other places and contracts include working as a university lecturer training other therapists, within an NHS staff counselling service, offering reflective practice to staff within homelessness services, offering therapy and supervision to therapists and other professionals in the care sector.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I take a firm stance in challenging the mental health stigma still present in the UK today - most people arrive in therapy feeling slightly awkward for needing help which comes as an extra layer of distress on top of whatever else is going on.

I aim to be as open as possible about how I work.  I won't send you away with worksheets or diaries and I will probably be a better fit for those who have found CBT unhelpful.
