About me
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor working within Liverpool city centre. I am continuing to work face to face during the pandemic.
Most people request support from me when they have exhausted their own options and don't know where to turn next. I offer a professional yet down to earth service in which to explore your difficulties whatever they may be.
Hourly sessions are offered weekly or fortnightly, usually in an open ended way where you get to decide how long you want support for. Some people come for a few sessions, some for a few months and others decide to come more longer term over years. Many people now use therapy to return to over time, re-accessing support when it's needed most with someone who knows them and their life.
I aim to offer an introductory appointment within a week and you can decide if counselling and my approach feels right for you. I have a small number of concession spaces I can offer during quieter times in my working day - there can be a waiting list for a concession space.
I can also make recommendations of other therapists who work in specialist areas I do not cover (children, EMDR and male therapists)
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a full member of UKCP and trained at Metanoia Institute London.
I’ve also worked as a university lecturer training other therapists and I work for a an NHS staff counselling service in Greater Manchester.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I take a firm stance in challenging the mental health stigma still present in the UK today - most people arrive in therapy feeling slightly awkward for being there (understatement) and that comes as an extra layer of distress on top of whatever else is going on.
I aim to be as open as possible about how I work. I won't send you away with worksheets or diaries and I will probably be a better fit for those who have found CBT unhelpful.
