About me
Hi there, I'm Lauren (she/her).
I provide a non-judgemental, warm and empathic environment where you can share your needs, thoughts, and explore who you are in a safe and confidential space.
I work collaboratively with each client to establish a therapeutic relationship, which lays the foundation for our work together.
I aim to support you in exploring any issues and challenges, and to develop and deepen an understanding of who you are and how you relate to others.
I am trained in integrative counselling, which means that I work within a number of therapeutic approaches, including humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic modalities. We can work through your past experiences, relationship dynamics, and goals for the future in a way that feels right for you.
In the same way that each person and their stories are unique, our therapeutic experience will be unique, and I will focus on what you decide to bring to each session.
I view therapy as a constantly evolving and collaborative process, and my aim is to work alongside you to identify and work towards what you would like to gain from coming to therapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a BSc in Integrative Counselling from the University of East London. This course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have experience working with clients in both open-ended and short-term therapy. I have worked within the NHS delivering short-term, goal-focused therapy, which can be particularly helpful if you are coming to therapy with a specific difficulty or outcome in mind. I also work on an open-ended basis, allowing sessions to be shaped by what you bring each week.
I support clients with a wide range of issues, including depression, anxiety, bereavement, addiction, and family and relationship dynamics.
Alongside my work with adults, I also work with children and young people, predominantly in school settings. I use creative and play-based therapeutic approaches and have experience working with issues such as sexual abuse, domestic abuse, physical and chronic illness within the family home, young carers, and complex trauma.
In addition to my clinical work, I have volunteered with several charities and not-for-profit organisations in a variety of roles. These include working as a family support worker for people with a family member in prison, a writing mentor in a local theatre, and an English teacher for refugees in Greece.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
