Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist MBACP

About me

Hi, I'm Kosi (koh-zee),

I am a psychodynamic therapist, offering psychotherapy in Hove and online.

Here, you will find an inclusive, confidential space for you to speak openly and honestly about whatever comes to mind, without judgement. Uncovering and talking about our feelings can be challenging and take time. I have a gentle and supportive approach, meaning that you will have someone in your corner along the way, and we will work at your pace. My practice welcomes and celebrates diversity. I work from a queer-affirming, neuroaffirming and culturally aware standpoint.

I believe that therapy is a relational and collaborative process and that it is important that you have a good fit with your therapist to be able to work together towards making lasting change. I won’t push an agenda or solution, instead, I will sit alongside you and support you as a fellow human being.

Together, clients and I have explored a range of difficulties, with a particular focus on relationship difficulties (friendships, familial, romantic) and finding their authentic selves. Examples of areas I have worked with include, but are not limited to:

  • Trauma and complex trauma
  • Low self-esteem and identity
  • People-pleasing
  • Gender Identity and Sexuality
  • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties
  • Life transitions
  • Neurodivergence
  • Depression, anxiety, and panic

Next Steps

If any of this resonates, please get in touch to either arrange an initial session or a 15 minute telephone conversation free of charge. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have and to for us to see how we might work together.

If you would like to explore working together, please get in touch via email and I will respond within two working days.

Location

I am based in Hove and have some online sessions available.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy, which has a focus on helping us understand our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours through the lens of our past experiences and unconscious. This way, we may find potential links between past and present, offering a different perspective and meaning to our experiences and relationships. I generally work on a long-term basis, allowing time for in-depth work.

I hold a Master's in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Certificate in Working with Couples and Relationships.

I work with individuals and couples (monogamous and ethically non-monogamous).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
