About me

A warm welcome to Essentia Counselling

I’m Kit, a qualified, insured and supervised integrative counsellor with a background in nursing, based just outside Bury St Edmunds.

Taking the first step in finding a counsellor can feel daunting, especially if you are already feeling overwhelmed or unsure. I offer a non-judgmental, safe, respectful space where you can feel, heard and understood. I strive to create an environment where you can speak openly and begin to make sense of whatever has brought you to therapy.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw on a range of approaches and tailor our work to suit your individual needs.  This may include talking therapy, creative methods, or a combination of both - guided by what works for you.  I believe that no two people are the same, so therapy should reflect you - your experiences, your goals, and your pace. Whether you are looking to explore deeper patterns or focus on a current difficulty, we can shape the work together.

Many clients come to me during periods of distress. You may be feeling stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or hopeless, and unsure how to move forward, or simply need someone to hear your worries and concerns. At times, it can be hard to understand why events unfold as they do or how they have shaped your feelings, relationships, and sense of self. I offer sensitivity and steadiness, alongside thoughtful challenge where helpful, to support you in untangling these experiences.  Rather than directing or prescribing, I work collaboratively alongside you, supporting you to make your own choices and create change.

Together, we can explore how past experiences and recurring patterns may be influencing your present. By developing greater awareness and understanding, new possibilities can begin to emerge. We might focus on building self-compassion, strengthening relationships, managing anxiety, or navigating a life transition. We can also work in the here and now, concentrating on what feels most pressing for you.

Alongside this, I bring lived experience as the parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes, and have previously facilitated a diabetes support group. I understand the emotional complexity this can bring, and the impact it can have on both individuals and families.

Counselling is such a personal journey, and feeling comfortable with your counsellor makes all the difference, which is why finding the right fit for you is so important. I offer a free 10-minute Zoom call to give you the chance to see if I feel like the right counsellor for you. Please email me to arrange a time.  I also post regularly on Facebook/Instagram under Essentia Counselling, which gives you an idea of how I work.
