About me
I use a combination of CBT, Acceptance & compassion therapy (ACT) and somatic therapy (body/mind connection). I am also a qualified yoga instructor in Vinyasa flow.
At times life can feel very over whelming, we can lose perspective and fall into a pattern of unhealthy habits. These behaviours may be your coping strategies to help you feel better but aren’t so helpful to your physical and mental well being resulting in feeling anxious and depressed. Having an outside perspective on what’s going on in your life can help refocus your mind and realign your life style with your core values so you can begin living with balance, integrity and autonomy.
I offer online sessions and in person where I will attentively listen to you, together we will identify how your thinking habits are affecting your behaviour and feelings. Collaboratively, we will create a healthy and achievable structure for you to move towards your goals and reconnect to your autonomy, instilling confidence and empowerment.
Empathy, congruence and integrity are key to a good therapeutic relationship, which encourages healing through being seen, understood and supported. Sometimes we need outside eyes to see what we cannot. Being open to new ideas and different approaches is fundamental to moving forward.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a qualified CBT therapist, Yoga instructor, clinical massage therapist and studied somatic psychotherapy (movement psychotherapy). I have a qualification in nutrition and Pilates. I take a holistic approach with core cbt principals to guide my clients to where they aspire to. I understand how the physical body holds tension having been a massage therapist for 15 years. The body keeps the score (title of a good book) therefore I ask many lifestyle questions along with a brief history of childhood. The role of the therapist takes many forms, but ultimately is here to support you, provide a safe space for you to explore new ideas, self discovery, express emotion, increase self awareness and understand how the mind operates. Therapy is a valuable investment in oneself with great rewards.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
