About me
I am an integrative counsellor with over 10 years experience working with clients who present with anxiety, depression, relationship breakdowns, domestic abuse, trauma and loss to name but a few presenting issues. I integrate a person centred way of working with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I am a member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association). My particular areas of interest are domestic abuse and fertility.
I have worked in the field of mental health for twenty years now. I started off working for a mental health charity where I spent time supporting service users both in the community and in a hospital setting. I’ve also worked as a befriender supporting clients with OCD. I spent my training years working for a domestic abuse charity. I am a qualified teacher and enjoy training counsellors and training tutors to teach counselling. There is potential to incorporate a psychoeducational element into the work we do but only if that’s what we mutually agree.
As a member of BACP, I take my commitment to providing ethical practice seriously. Mental health is so important - it is worth investing in and equally as important is finding a counsellor who you think is a good fit for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
Training:
I completed my practitioner training over 10 years ago now, qualifying as an Integrative counsellor. I integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Person centred therapy. A few years after that I qualified as a teacher and gained experience teaching counselling. More recently, I qualified as a clinical supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Level 6 Advanced Specialist Diploma in Clinical Supervision
- Post Graduate Certificate in Education
- Introduction to Transactional Analysis (TA101)
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
- Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Experience as a counsellor:
I am an integrative counsellor- this means I work from a person-centred foundation which I think is important to building hopefully a honest and genuine relationship. We may discuss looking at some cognitive tools or techniques depending on what it is that has brought you to counselling as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is the other modality I am trained and experienced in. I've worked for a domestic abuse charity working with female survivors of domestic abuse for a number of year. I worked for a local charity providing counselling to male and female clients on a range of presenting issues including loss of a pet, anxiety, depression, egg donation, agoraphobia, relationship issues, stress and trauma.
Experience as a supervisor:
In my role as a clinical supervisor, I integrate what's sometimes referred to as the functions model and the seven-eyed model. I'm happy to work creatively which I know is something supervisees appreciate. I will adapt my supervisory style as much as possible to support my supervisees. I work with a lot of my supervisees online which suits our needs and I enjoy working face-to-face from premises in Chelmsford, Essex.
You can expect a supervisor who promotes integrity, curiosity, creativity and who will work with you to get the best of the supervisory relationship.
I've worked with supervisees across the UK and Scotland and generally work with supervisees online. I have experience of working with supervisees who consider themselves neurodiverse. I have experience of working with supervisees in their EAP work, charity work and private practice.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
