About me
Approaching from a supportive, accepting and genuine place, I offer therapy with knowledge and understanding of a wide range of issues and problems that may be affecting you. I can work in a time conscious, or long-term way, depending on your needs, personal circumstances and my availability.
I want anyone who chooses to work with me to feel as comfortable as they possibly can. To help with this I aim to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for everyone. My therapy practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ friendly, and welcoming to those from any ethnic or cultural background.
I am experienced in exploring identity, gender and sexuality. I often work with individuals who have experienced trauma, including singular traumatic events, childhood abuse, religious trauma, and loss. I work with clients on relationship and work related difficulties.
I am experienced in working with emotional and psychological distress, and the many difficulties that can stem from it, including dissociation. I have worked with clients diagnosed with conditions such as OCD, Anxiety, Depression, C-PTSD and ADHD. My aim is to help clients understand how conditions may be affecting them and support them to make any changes in their lives, that they may find useful.
I offer 50 minute appointments, weekly and fortnightly. Face-to-face sessions take place in my home garden office. I also offer online sessions, using zoom. Once I receive your enquiry I will respond as soon as I can to let you know my availability.
I offer a free 20 minute telephone call to clarify or answer any questions you might have before booking an initial appointment. Please indicate if you would like to book this with me upon enquiry.
During the first initial appointment I will look to get a better understanding of how I might help you. It is also an opportunity for you to decide if you feel I'm the right person to help you. There is no obligation to attend further sessions if you don't want to.
Training, qualifications & experience
Since qualifying with a BA Hons in Person Centred Counselling and Human Relations in 2009 I have worked with children, young people and adults therapeutically. My background originally was in primary and secondary schools, GP practices and other community settings.
After gaining several years of therapy practice experience, supporting clients on a wide range of issues, I undertook an MA in Trauma Studies at the University of Nottingham. Here, I also co-chaired the National Association for Trauma Specialists, affiliated to the University and was awarded an MA with distinction in 2019. After graduating I extended my therapy practice, working with those who have experienced trauma, including singular events, and prolonged and sustained traumas in both childhood and adulthood.
Following my MA, I successfully secured a fully funded doctoral position with the Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership at the Open University, where I was awarded my PhD. My research explores staff and service user experiences of mental health services.
I am passionate about supporting clients in education, health and social care, and public services professions to address stress and burn out, which often is a factor within these vocations. I am similarly passionate about how sharing my own personal lived experiences of distress can sometimes be helpful for clients working through their own distress.
All the training, experiences and work I have been involved in since my initial qualification in 2009 have contributed to an in-depth knowledge and understanding of a wide range of emotional and psychological issues and problems. I am experienced in helping clients to identify issues they would like to explore in a supportive and non-judgemental way.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
