About me
Hi, I’m Sarah-Jane, a qualified integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and author based in Bedale, North Yorkshire, offering both face-to-face and online sessions across the UK.
Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling adrift, perhaps a relationship breakdown, bereavement, family strain, or simply a sense of “I don’t feel like myself anymore.” Anxiety, low mood, and self-doubt can make it hard to see the way forward.
I offer a calm, grounded space where you can pause, reflect, and regain your footing. My approach is warm, relational, and down-to-earth, rooted in curiosity, care, and trust. We work together at your pace, exploring both what hurts and what helps, so that you can begin to feel more anchored and connected to yourself.
You don’t need to be in crisis to start therapy, just ready to explore what matters to you. If you’d like to determine whether we're a good fit, I offer a complimentary 15-minute call to discuss the details.
In-person sessions in Bedale or online nationwide.
I’m the author of When We Becomes Me, a book exploring the emotional, psychological and lived experience of separation and divorce from a psychotherapist’s perspective. A guide, taking you through, before the words are spoken, the messy middle, how children may react at different ages, and to rebuilding yourself in your own story.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold the following qualifications:
- BA in Sociology and Social Psychology
- Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology
- Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Integrative)
I trained as an integrative therapist, meaning I draw on a range of approaches, tailored to your individual needs.
My experience includes working in the community, as a school counsellor and in charitable counselling services, supporting adults and secondary school children with anxiety, facing grief, trauma, relationship breakdowns, and identity struggles. I’ve worked both online and in person with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Alongside my clinical work, I have published articles and written a book that explores the emotional realities of divorce, drawing on both personal experience and professional insight. This work builds on my postgraduate research into the relational experiences of adult children from blended families, a subject I continue to explore in therapy with clients navigating family change, separation, and the complexities of identity.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in community-facing and people-centred roles. That experience, along with raising a family and navigating life’s inevitable highs and lows, shaped how I show up in the therapy room: grounded, open, and without judgment.
My practice, Anchoring Therapy, is built around the idea that therapy should feel steady and safe, like an anchor during times of transition or inner storm.
I welcome enquiries from anyone seeking support, whether you're in the midst of change, facing something painful, or simply wanting to understand yourself better.
