About me

Hello, I'm Kate.

I'm a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience supporting people within addiction and mental health services.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, self-esteem issues, alcohol use, addiction, or perhaps you simply feel lost, stuck, or disconnected from who you are.

Whatever has brought you here, you don't have to face it alone.

I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and honestly, knowing you'll be listened to with care, empathy and respect. Together, we can make sense of what you're experiencing and explore what's going on beneath the surface.

My approach is Person-Centred, which means I believe you are the expert on your own life. Rather than telling you what you should do, I will work alongside you, at a pace that feels right for you, helping you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a way that feels safe and meaningful.

You don't need to arrive with everything figured out. Many people come to counselling unsure of where to begin, and that's okay. Sometimes having the space to slow down, reflect, and feel truly heard can be the first step towards positive change.

My hope is that through our work together, you can develop a deeper understanding of yourself, build self-compassion, and reconnect with the person you are beneath life's challenges and expectations.

Taking the first step can feel daunting, but you are very welcome to get in touch if you'd like to find out more or see whether counselling with me feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor, having completed a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within its ethical framework.

Alongside my counselling practice, I am a Registered Nurse with over 20 years’ professional experience within addiction and mental health services. I am also a qualified Nurse Prescriber.

My professional experience includes supporting people with alcohol and substance use, addiction, mental health difficulties, emotional wellbeing, change and recovery. I have worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds and with varied life experiences.

More recently, I have completed UKAAN training in ADHD diagnosis and assessment, as well as pharmacological treatment, and have also gained experience working within ADHD services. This has further developed my understanding of ADHD and the ways in which it can affect emotional wellbeing and everyday life.

I continue to develop my knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development, ensuring that my practice remains reflective and responsive to the individual needs of the people I work with.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I believe counselling should be a space where you can feel able to be yourself, without having to pretend that everything is okay.

You may have spent a long time putting other people first, trying to cope, or feeling that you need to manage things on your own. Perhaps you understand what is happening logically, but still find yourself feeling stuck, overwhelmed or struggling to move forward.

I offer counselling to adults, both face-to-face and online. My style is gentle, warm, nurturing and authentic. I offer you the time and space to slow things down and explore what is happening beneath the surface, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

You don’t need to have all the answers or even know exactly where to begin. I will listen without judgement and support you to make sense of your experiences, feelings and whatever may be troubling you.

For me, counselling is about creating a genuine and trusting connection where you can feel heard, accepted and understood. I won’t tell you what you should do or try to change you. Instead, I will walk alongside you, offering warmth, compassion and support as you explore what feels right for you.

If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, I offer a free 15-minute discovery call. This gives us an opportunity to have an initial conversation, for you to ask any questions and get a sense of who I am and whether you feel comfortable working with me. There is no pressure or expectation to book.
