About me

Hi, thanks for stopping by. I'm Kate, and I'm here to help you work through whatever it is that has prompted you to consider therapy.

Seeking counselling can be a brave step toward personal growth and healing. If you're here, you've already shown courage in acknowledging the need for support in your journey.

With warmth, compassion, and professionalism, I offer a collaborative approach to therapy, tailored to your individual needs and goals. Whether you're seeking support through a specific issue, or seeking personal growth and self-discovery, I'm here to walk alongside you.

About my approach

My approach to therapy is grounded in the relationship I have with my clients. My practice comes from a place of belief that you understand your life best, and it’s my job to give you space to explore what this means, and empower you to understand yourself, your needs, and work towards living your life in the way that suits you.

I aim to create a therapeutic holding space with empathy and non-judgement that gives you a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, and how they influence and guide the way you live, and how you want to work with or change that to live a more fulfilling life. Occasionally this may mean challenging your thoughts and actions in a non-judgemental way, aimed at giving you a safe space to question and understand yourself.

My training and experience

My core training is as an integrative practitioner, meaning I have a background in multiple therapeutic modalities, including humanistic, CBT, existential, and psychodynamic. In practice, this means I tailor the therapeutic experience to you, drawing on multiple disciplines to work in a way that suits you and your needs.

Being MA qualified in counselling and psychotherapy, I offer both short-term, goal-oriented counselling, and longer-term, open-ended therapy. I maintain a small caseload to ensure all my clients receive due care and attention, and work privately alongside working sessionally at Cardiff Mind. Previously, I have worked specifically with young adults accessing counselling through their educational institute, Cardiff and Vale College.

Issues I’ve worked with

I have worked with clients experiencing emotional distress related to a myriad of issues. These have included, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, childhood emotional abuse, past domestic abuse, body image and low self-esteem, quarter-life and mid-life crisis, feelings of overwhelm, suicidal ideation, relationship issues, LGBTQIA+ focus, significant and unexpected circumstance and life changes, self-discovery and acceptance, grief, and more.

Contacting a therapist

It’s okay to feel nervous or unsure about what to do next. It’s completely okay—and often helpful—to contact more than one therapist when you’re starting out. Think of it as a process of finding the right fit for you.

It can be helpful to craft a short message to send via text or email. This could include info on what you’re looking for or why you’re looking for a therapist - but it’s also okay if you don’t feel comfortable sharing this information yet, or aren’t able to put words to why you’re looking for support. If there’s anything you want to ask a potential therapist, feel free to include it in your message. Many therapists offer an initial call, giving you space to ask questions and get a feel for the connection.

I’m happy to schedule a 15-minute chat, answer any questions you may have over text/email, or go ahead and schedule a first session. Get in touch using the 'email me' button on this page, email me directly at affinitycardiff@gmail.com, or message me on 07712 500 204.

Wherever you take the next step in your journey, you deserve to work with someone you feel safe and understood with. If one option doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to keep looking. The right support is out there, and reaching out is already a brave and valuable first step.

I have more information about my approach, and helpful information on things like first sessions on my website, affinity-counselling.co.uk.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
