About me

Hello, my name is Karla, I am a qualified counsellor, supervisor and trainer.

I was born and raised in the beautiful Island of Guernsey having lived and experienced life both abroad and in the UK.

My aim is to provide you with a warm open and confidential space for you to explore any issues that may be troubling you free from the fear of judgement in what you 'feel' you would like to bring to counselling.

I will ensure that you are listened to and heard with respect and understanding. I will not judge you but enable you to work through any issues that we may identify together so that hopefully you are confident enough to go forward with a more positive outlook of yourself and your life.

Pivotal to my work is connection and a working relationship based on mutual trust.

I believe it is important that you feel comfortable before you commit to counselling therefore, I also offer a free consultation to allow us both to meet or talk to see if we can work together.

I work from private premises set back from the main road and in a peaceful location. There is good access and plenty of private parking directly outside.

Therapy is very individualised and I believe it is important to ask 'you' what it is 'you' would like to gain from any work that we do together. I am able to work with a varied approach using a variety of therapies depending on what it is that you want or need.

Training, qualifications & experience

Having worked extensively in Education over the years both in the Primary and Secondary Sector as a Learning Support Mentor, I have a good overview of young people's Health & Wellbeing and have worked with Social, emotional and behavioural concerns.

I have extensive experience of working with Domestic abuse supporting women/men, children/families, along with family support in general of which my training consisted of working within a multi-agency setting here in Guernsey and in conjunction with the UK. I have experience of both face to face and telephone support using my counselling skills within the workplace, organisations and charities and am also a qualified Supervisor working with individuals and groups.

I have vast experience of working very closely with suicide and supporting survivors with trauma related experiences and supporting in critical incident management.

I am able to take GP referrals where requested at a reduced fee.

I also volunteer at the Guernsey Bereavement Service where I am a Counsellor and Supervisor and have supported there for the last eight + years.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
