About me

Are you finding things difficult to cope with at the moment? Sometimes it is difficult to find your way through this by yourself.

My name is Karen and I offer Integrative Counselling, Psycotherapy and/or Spectrum Healing sessions to help you find the answers you need to find a way forward. I have completed Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling, Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and               Trauma Informed Training and am experienced in working with both adults and young people.

WHAT CAN I SEE YOU ABOUT?

I work with many difficulties such as anxiety, stress, bereavement, eating difficulties, loneliness, relationship problems, discrimination, loss of purpose and trauma. I can also help you to explore any situation you’re finding challenging or difficult in some way.

HOW DO YOU WORK?

Counselling - I offer Integrative Counselling sessions making use of Person Centred, Gestalt, CBT, Psychodynamic and Transpersonal theories. Each session is centred around you and tailored to you, working in a way which aims to promote wholeness and balance. This may be done by helping to express feelings which are painful that may have made it difficult to cope with everyday life or to stay positive. It may also include looking at what gives you purpose or exploring strategies that help you live in the here and now rather than being drawn back to the past or worrying about the future. Whatever methods I use, I put you at the centre of the process and encourage you to find what works for you from what I may offer to you. For those times when words don't come easily or when they are not enough to describe things, I love incorporating creativity such as drawing, working with objects and cards, visualisations and meditations. This process can foster growth and lead to positive change in your life.

The Integrative Counselling sessions and healing sessions can assist you in finding what you want to change, how you want to change it and how you can implement this. I believe that everyone has the answers inside themselves, they just need space and time to explore this to be able to find what works for them.

Spectrum Healing - Try Spectrum Healing if you want ;
  - to improve your Physical health or fitness
  - to improve emotional well-being
  - to release thoughts or beliefs that are holding you back
  - personal or spiritual development
  - harmony at work and home
  - to help your pets

Spectrum Healing can help you release things that are holding your back easily and effectively.

HOW LONG ARE SESSIONS?

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

WHERE CAN I SEE YOU?

I offer 50 minute sessions face to face in Derriford, Plymouth or via Zoom or  Telephone across the UK (for £40 per session). I am available 9:00am to 5pm on Wednesday, 4pm to 8pm on Thursday and 9am to 1pm Friday.

HOW OFTEN DO I SEE YOU?

In our first session, we would discuss what you would like out of counselling and see how this may be achieved. If we feel that we both feel we are happy with this, then further sessions can be booked. It is up to you how often to book - weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc. There is no obligation at any point to continue, as I feel it is important for you to make sure that I am the right therapist for you before you book sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

My first career was Teaching and for many years I worked with pupils with Special Educational Needs and those that had been through trauma of some kind. I quickly realised that a large part of the job involved active listening. I saw how pupils responded to this and quickly decided to follow my passion and train to be a counsellor. I decided I wanted to be able to focus completely on each individual and tailor therapy to what each person wants and help them to explore and find solutions for themselves...therefore 'Total Focus Therapy' was born.

I have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling, Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Trauma Informed Training.

I also realised that releasing stubborn emotions, thoughts or patterns may sometimes need a different approach, and that’s when I decided to use my training in Spectrum Healing too (trained to Level 6), to offer another choice in how a client may wish to approach things.

I have travelled my own personal journey and can see that if we are willing to explore, find answers and then make the changes we need to, wellbeing can improve and we can find more joy and fun in our life.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
