About me
Life doesn't always give us a warning before it starts to feel too much. Maybe you're feeling anxious, low, stuck, or overwhelmed, and you're not quite sure why or what to do about it. Maybe something has happened, like experiencing a loss, a relationship breaking down, or experiencing burnout, and you just need somewhere to put it down for a while. Whatever has brought you here, I'm glad you've taken this step, and I'm here to help.
I'm Karen, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults and young adults in Farnham and Basingstoke, and online with clients across the UK. I offer a warm, inclusive, non-judgemental space where you can talk honestly about what's going on, without needing to have the right words for it yet. Together, we'll work at your pace to build understanding and clarity.
My approach and what to expect
I'm an integrative counsellor, which means I don't work from a single fixed model. I draw on multiple theories from Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Attachment Theory (amongst others), and adapt my approach to what actually helps you, rather than fitting my practice into one way of working. Together we can begin exploring the patterns and beliefs that may no longer be serving you, understanding where they came from, and working to build new ways of thinking, feeling and coping.
Counselling is a space where you can be fully yourself, be heard without judgement, and feel genuinely supported as you work through whatever you're facing.
I offer a free 20-minute phone call, so we can talk about what's brought you to counselling and you can get a feel for whether we're a good fit. There's no pressure either way. From there, sessions are available weekly or fortnightly, in person at comfortable, private therapy rooms in Farnham or Basingstoke, or online, wherever you are in the UK.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations. In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
