About me
I am a qualified BACP registered integrative counsellor. I offer a warm, non-judgemental environment, where I can tailor your counselling to fit your individual needs. I provide a range of therapies, working with clients of all ages, in a face-to-face setting, online, or via telephone. I work from a central location, around the corner from a metro and bus interchange, and there is free parking available a short 2 min walk away.
Starting therapy can be very daunting and it can feel scary to be open about feelings and experiences you have had throughout life. When clients come to see me, I see them as an individual, and understand that everyone has their own difficulties, their own experiences in life, and their own needs in therapy.
About me and my own journey:
As a result of various difficulties in my own life, I have been through my own personal counselling on a few occasions. After being supported so well in my own therapy, and the difference I saw within myself as a result of this, I began to wonder if there was a way I could support others in a similar way. As a natural empath with a keen desire to help people, I was drawn to training to become a counsellor myself, as I could think of nothing better than to help people the way I have been helped. Fast forward 8 years, and I have now been counselling children, young people, and adults for 4 years.
How can counselling help:
There are many reasons why people may feel they need counselling. Whether you have experienced difficult events in life, struggles in relationships, need help with anger, or have negative thoughts and behaviours that you want to change, counselling can help.
In counselling you will not be given advice. Instead, you will have a safe, impartial, and confidential space, where you will be listened to, and where you can feel heard in an accepting and non-judgmental way. Counselling can help you to work through your difficulties, whether they be historic or present, to make sense of things, understand yourself more, work through challenging feelings and emotions, and help you to achieve your goals and make positive changes in your life.
When working with children I offer a safe space for them to open up and explore their difficulties through creative methods including play and art making.
Whether you would like short- or long-term therapy, sessions will be tailored to fit your needs, and will go at your pace, meaning you can open up when you feel comfortable to do so.
Initial appointment:
I provide a free assessment session where you can tell me about any issues or problems you might be experiencing in the here and now, or in your past. The initial assessment also gives us a chance to discuss any help I feel I can provide, what kind of therapies I offer, for you to ask any questions and for us to get to know each other a bit more. After the assessment, you will then be able to consider if you feel I am the right counsellor for you and if you feel comfortable to start your counselling journey with me.
If you decide to go ahead with counselling, your sessions will last 50 mins. These can be weekly or fortnightly depending on your needs and what will suit you.
Training, qualifications & experience
My experience:
I have a foundation degree in Counselling where I studied a range of therapies, and since qualifying I have attended and completed numerous courses and workshops to further my knowledge and gain further skills. I have worked in numerous schools, charities, organisations and in my private practice with a range of issues.
I have a lot of experience both professionally and personally with children, young people and adults who are neuro-diverse. I also have a lot of experience working with looked after children who may have had difficult or traumatic experiences in their past.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
