About me

Hello, I’m Julia. Thank you for giving me some of your time.

If you’re investigating psychotherapists right now, it’s likely something in your life isn’t working.

It may be that you’re struggling with feelings of depression, anxiety or low self-esteem. Perhaps you’re having difficulties in your relationships with friends, family or significant others, or your work is not fulfilling you. You might be carrying painful memories from the past that you’re unable to let go of and these experiences are now preventing you from leading the life you wish for yourself. Perhaps your coping mechanisms are no longer working or have become destructive, or maybe you feel there is something more to life that you’re yet to find, but you don't know what that something is.

I am a transpersonal psychotherapist combining psychotherapy with therapeutic coaching. I take an integrative approach to my work, meaning that I will encourage you to consider all aspects of your life. We will explore your current concerns, but may also talk about your childhood, how you feel about life’s big questions, who you have become and who you want to be.

We will not only be travelling backwards; I also aim for your experience to be optimistic and forward-gazing. I provide a warm, safe and non-judgmental space where you can bring whatever you need. We will use our time together to forge a possible path towards a happier and more fulfilling life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been lucky to have been in practice as a psychotherapist and coach for the last decade after making a successful career-change from my first work in advertising and PR. I chose to leave the corporate world, and eventually London, to work more closely with people and live more closely to nature.

I have been a volunteer at Maytree, a respite centre for people in suicidal crisis and provided support to vulnerable women under the care of Kingston Women’s Centre. I have mentored students with disabilities through their time at university and have supported and coached clients through challenging life transitions such as trauma, bereavement, pregnancy, new parenthood, retirement and divorce. I have trained in meditation, breath-work and coaching and am in regular CPD, frequently bringing old and new practices I have learnt into my work.

In 2014 co-founded Transform Counselling, a not-for-profit low cost counselling service offering affordable depth therapy to those who would not otherwise have access to it. Transform was created as an answer to the lack of accessible long-term counselling for people on lower or no income, and hinges on the philosophy that emotional and psychological wellbeing should be available to all.

While I remain closely involved with Transform, today I work with my clients privately, offering a blend of psychotherapy, coaching and mentoring, designed according to their unique needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I practice from a beautiful eighteenth century farmhouse located just outside the picturesque village of Essendon, close to Hertford, Welwyn and Hatfield, and with easy links to London. It is a peaceful and tranquil place surrounded by trees and fields, where we can meet privately and in comfort, and make use of the outdoor world if the moment takes us.

I also offer sessions online or by phone for those who are unable to meet in person but would still like to work with me. While in-person sessions create a certain dynamic, remote sessions offer their own kind of energy that is equally as transformative.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.
