About me

If you’re coping on the outside but worn down on the inside, counselling can be a place to pause and take stock.

I’m a BACP-registered psychotherapist offering one-to-one counselling for adults, both in person in Portsmouth and online.

People often come to me because they’re worn down rather than falling apart. On the outside, life may look fine with work, family and responsibility. But inside there’s fatigue, tension, flatness, or a sense of carrying too much for too long.

I work in a calm, grounded, and straight-talking way. I’m not interested in therapy clichés or quick fixes. Instead, we focus on understanding what’s happening for you, how you’ve learned to cope, and what’s no longer working.

I have experience working with men and high-functioning adults who don’t naturally see themselves as “therapy people”, but who know something needs to change.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified psychotherapist with a BA (Hons) in Person-Centred Counselling & Psychotherapy and I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have over 15 years’ experience working in mental health and wellbeing across a range of settings, including private practice and organisational work. This has involved supporting people with stress, burnout, anxiety, low mood, and the impact of sustained pressure.

Alongside my therapy work, I also work as a Mental Health Trainer, delivering sessions on stress, burnout, and wellbeing across a range of organisations. This gives me a strong understanding of modern working life, while maintaining clear boundaries between therapy and education.

I work ethically and in line with the BACP Ethical Framework, with regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Free initial call

I offer a free 30-minute, no-obligation telephone call. This is a chance to talk through what’s bringing you to counselling, ask any questions, and get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit.

What sessions are like

Therapy doesn’t require you to have the right words or a clear story. Sessions are a space to slow things down and talk honestly, without pressure to perform or explain yourself perfectly. We start where you are.

Practical details

Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. I offer telephone and online sessions, as well as in-person sessions.

In-person sessions take place in a purpose-built, self-contained therapy room with its own private entrance. The space is designed to be calm, discreet, and comfortable, with on-site parking available.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
