About me
Hi, I am John, and I specialise in supporting people through trauma, anxiety and depression. Having experienced trauma, severe anxiety and depression myself I understand that you can feel stuck, and you are unable to move forward with your life or enjoy the things you are used to. I can help you to understand why you feel the way you do. How you feel is unique to you, so we will work in a way that fits your individual needs, helping you to find ways to move forward in a meaningful way.
I work with adults as well as children and young people over 11 years of age. I am committed to guiding you towards positive change. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds. I am here to help and will never judge you.
How counselling can Help
Together, we'll explore three key approaches. I use person-centred counselling where I try and help you to find your own answers and solutions in a supportive environment. I may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), where we look at managing negative thoughts you have and psychodynamic counselling where we look at how the past is affecting you now.
My integrative approach means that your journey will be tailored to you. Whether you are dealing with past trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or anything that is causing you anxiety or depression.
What to expect from the first session
Please email or phone to arrange a free 30-minute consultation to talk about what you are looking for and for me to answer any of your questions.
I can tell you a bit more about how counselling works if you are unfamiliar with the process. This will give you an opportunity to decide if you feel comfortable with me and for me to understand more about your needs and to see if I feel that I am the right person to help you. There is no obligation to continue working with me after this.
If we feel that we can work well together then we will schedule a full counselling session. This will last 50 minutes and for a regular day and time each week, online or on the telephone as you prefer.
Therapy can be short, medium or long-term and we will review regularly and agree when you think you will be ready to end counselling. This will always be your choice.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
