About me

Hi, I'm Jodie.

I'm a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Adel, north Leeds. I have always loved working with people and helping them to learn, change, and grow.

Maybe you’re going through something difficult; feeling anxious, overwhelmed or burnt out. Maybe you’re feeling a little lost or stuck. Or maybe you're just aware that something isn't working. You don't have to have it all figured out before getting in touch.

I work alongside you, following your lead to understand your experience and explore whatever feels important to you. I'm particularly interested in the relationship between mind and body - the neuroscience of stress, how difficult experiences shape our nervous systems, and what that means for how we work through them.

My background in adult education means that psychoeducation is central to how I work. I find that understanding the biology behind how we feel, and why certain practices such as grounding and mindfulness actually work, can remove a lot of the shame and mystery. When things make sense in this way, they become a lot more manageable, and easier to work through.

I'm committed to LGBTQ+ and neuro-affirming practice, and I approach every person as an individual, without assumptions.

I work with individual adults, offering 50-minute sessions, either in person or online via video call. Sessions take place in a purpose-built therapy room in Adel, north Leeds - a calm, private space with its own entrance and bathroom, overlooking a garden. I offer both daytime and evening appointments.

If you're wondering whether this might be a good fit, please get in touch. We can arrange a free conversation to talk it through, with no obligation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling and Interpersonal skills, and I'm a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I've completed rigorous BACP-accredited training, my practice is guided by the BACP ethical framework, and I engage in regular supervision, training and continuing professional development.

I also have a Master's degree in Adult Education for Social Change, which directly informs how I understand counselling as a collaborative and developmental process. I believe that people are the experts on their own lives, and that meaningful change starts with meeting someone where they are.

I work in a person-centred and integrative way, drawing on relational and psychodynamic models, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), CBT, and trauma-informed approaches, depending on what suits you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
