About me
We hear life being described as a journey all the time. We don't always talk about how overwhelming, scary and uncertain some of that journey can be. Sometimes it's really hard not knowing what's around the corner. And sometimes it's even harder knowing what's ahead but not knowing how to pass through it. I can help you to navigate through the challenges, uncertainty and difficulties in life, and we can work together on getting you to where you'd like to be.
Perhaps you'd like to understand yourself a little more. Maybe you'd like to understand your relationships or work on a particular difficulty you're having. It might be that you have some trauma or difficult experiences in your past that you need a safe space to process. Perhaps you need to make sense of things that have happened to you so that you can move forward. And I think often, we don't even know what it is, we just know that there is something that we want to deal with - not knowing where to start is also ok!
As a Person Centred Therapist, I will create an environment for us to work together, which will be safe, open, and welcoming, with you at the centre. I will walk with you while you find your own way.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a level four diploma in Person Centred Therapy and am a registered member of the BACP. During my training, and for some time afterwards, I was lucky to be able to work with young people between the ages of 13 and 25 at a local young people's charity. I also work at the NHS Addictions Service in Safeguarding and have worked with many people struggling with addictions, and dealing with trauma. Previously, I worked for some years in homelessness both for the charity sector and for the Local Authority. My work with young people and some of the most vulnerable people in our community has been so valuable - I approach all of my clients with a huge amount of empathy, I meet them where they are, and I have a huge amount of respect for their experiences, and for the lives that they have lived.
On a personal note, I am a gay woman, who came out somewhat later in life. I have a special interest in working with clients who may find themselves dealing with challenges relating to their identity and sexuality and need a safe space in which to navigate through. This can be a lonely time, and having someone in your corner who understands the unique challenges you might be facing is so valuable.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
