About me
Hi, I’m Joanne. Sometimes life can feel like a lot. You might be struggling with something that’s difficult to make sense of, feeling overwhelmed, or simply finding that things don’t feel quite right. Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to work through it alone. I’m a BACP-registered integrative counsellor, and I believe counselling should be about you - not fitting you into a particular approach. I take time to understand you as an individual and adapt the way I work to what feels most helpful, offering a warm, genuine, and non-judgemental space to talk openly and explore what’s on your mind, at your own pace.
I work with adults and young people aged 10+, with a particular interest in supporting children and young people. I understand that it isn’t always easy to put feelings into words, especially when you’re unsure of what you’re feeling yourself. Together, we can find ways to explore and express what’s going on, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Starting counselling can feel like a big step, and you may not know exactly what you need yet. That’s okay. You don’t need all the answers before reaching out. My role is to walk alongside you, listen without judgement, and help you make sense of things in a way that feels right for you. If my profile resonates, I’d be happy to hear from you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). As a BACP member, I work within their Ethical Framework, ensuring my practice is safe, professional, and centred on the wellbeing of my clients.
I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, alongside my counselling qualifications, enabling me to work confidently with both adults and young people. I am also a certified Drawing and Talking Practitioner, offering a creative therapeutic approach for children of all ages who may find it difficult to express themselves through words alone.
My approach is rooted in person-centred values, while integrating a range of therapeutic approaches to meet each client's individual needs. I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective counselling, providing a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their experiences and work towards positive change.
I have experience supporting adults, children and young people with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, trauma and life transitions. I am committed to continuing professional development and regularly undertake further training to ensure I provide the highest standard of care to those I support.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
